  • as the east is from the west.
  • 00:00:11.130 --> 00:00:13.030
  • Join my pastor, Robert Morris, as he concludes
  • 00:00:13.060 --> 00:00:15.230
  • the series by explaining that Jesus saved us by removing
  • 00:00:15.260 --> 00:00:18.260
  • our sins and inequities by taking them upon Himself
  • 00:00:18.290 --> 00:00:21.290
  • on the cross.
  • 00:00:22.020 --> 00:00:23.040
  • He truly is an amazing God, and an amazing Savior.
  • 00:00:23.070 --> 00:00:27.160
  • 00:00:27.190 --> 00:00:41.160
  • PASTOR ROBERT MORRIS: All right, I want you to turn to
  • 00:00:41.190 --> 00:00:43.000
  • two passages of Scripture, Joshua 5 and Zachariah 3.
  • 00:00:43.030 --> 00:00:49.160
  • Zachariah is the next to the last book in the Old Testament,
  • 00:00:49.190 --> 00:00:52.260
  • so if you're new, and we were all new at some point
  • 00:00:52.290 --> 00:00:55.140
  • to the Bible, the best way is you can go to Matthew
  • 00:00:55.170 --> 00:00:58.230
  • and then go left.
  • 00:00:58.260 --> 00:01:00.090
  • You'll see Malachi and then Zachariah.
  • 00:01:00.120 --> 00:01:03.260
  • So, that's going left, by the way.
  • 00:01:03.290 --> 00:01:06.220
  • So, we'll begin in Joshua 5, and we're ending our series
  • 00:01:06.250 --> 00:01:10.260
  • on "Amazing Grace" this weekend, and I was praying
  • 00:01:10.290 --> 00:01:15.140
  • and asking the Lord how He wanted me to end this series.
  • 00:01:15.170 --> 00:01:18.050
  • And a couple of weeks ago, during worship at
  • 00:01:18.080 --> 00:01:20.170
  • the Southlake campus, we sang the song, "Blessed Assurance",
  • 00:01:20.200 --> 00:01:26.110
  • and we got to this line that said,
  • 00:01:26.140 --> 00:01:28.150
  • "I, in my Savior, am happy and blessed".
  • 00:01:28.180 --> 00:01:33.140
  • And I thought to myself, that's right!
  • 00:01:33.170 --> 00:01:36.290
  • That's why I'm happy, is because I have a Savior.
  • 00:01:37.020 --> 00:01:42.030
  • And I'm not sure whether people understand how great
  • 00:01:42.060 --> 00:01:46.010
  • our Savior is, and how much we needed saving, and how
  • 00:01:46.040 --> 00:01:51.220
  • much we still need saving, and how wonderful the Savior is.
  • 00:01:51.250 --> 00:01:57.000
  • When you talk about amazing grace, it's because we have
  • 00:01:57.030 --> 00:02:00.170
  • an amazing Savior.
  • 00:02:00.200 --> 00:02:02.090
  • So, let me give you an illustration before we get
  • 00:02:02.120 --> 00:02:04.030
  • in the Word.
  • 00:02:04.060 --> 00:02:05.100
  • What if you were drowning, and you didn't know how to swim,
  • 00:02:05.130 --> 00:02:11.240
  • and someone saved you?
  • 00:02:11.270 --> 00:02:14.190
  • And you're now standing on the shore.
  • 00:02:14.220 --> 00:02:16.210
  • You're out of the water.
  • 00:02:16.240 --> 00:02:17.190
  • You're safe.
  • 00:02:17.220 --> 00:02:18.280
  • You've got a blanket around you.
  • 00:02:19.010 --> 00:02:21.000
  • You've been saved.
  • 00:02:21.030 --> 00:02:22.100
  • You were drowning.
  • 00:02:22.130 --> 00:02:23.130
  • You thought your life was ending.
  • 00:02:23.160 --> 00:02:27.190
  • Would you be happy?
  • 00:02:27.220 --> 00:02:31.160
  • Sure, you would!
  • 00:02:31.190 --> 00:02:33.110
  • But, let me give you a little more to help us
  • 00:02:33.140 --> 00:02:35.090
  • understand how happy we should be.
  • 00:02:35.120 --> 00:02:38.290
  • What if this savior said, I want you to understand too,
  • 00:02:39.020 --> 00:02:43.130
  • you never have to fear drowning again,
  • 00:02:43.160 --> 00:02:47.100
  • because I will never leave you, I will never forsake you.
  • 00:02:47.130 --> 00:02:52.050
  • I will be with you every moment of every day
  • 00:02:52.080 --> 00:02:56.150
  • for the rest of your life.
  • 00:02:56.180 --> 00:02:58.290
  • Would that make you happy as well?
  • 00:02:59.020 --> 00:03:02.290
  • See, the problem is that some of us learn to swim.
  • 00:03:03.020 --> 00:03:12.060
  • And we begin to think, well, we probably wouldn't need
  • 00:03:12.090 --> 00:03:15.150
  • the Savior now.
  • 00:03:15.180 --> 00:03:17.290
  • The only problem with that is, is that you don't
  • 00:03:18.020 --> 00:03:19.180
  • understand how great your sin really is.
  • 00:03:19.210 --> 00:03:23.060
  • It's like the ocean, and we can drop you off in the middle
  • 00:03:23.090 --> 00:03:27.110
  • of the ocean, and I don't care how well you can swim.
  • 00:03:27.140 --> 00:03:32.020
  • Do you know what you need?
  • 00:03:32.050 --> 00:03:34.170
  • You need a savior.
  • 00:03:34.200 --> 00:03:37.190
  • See, we have a Savior.
  • 00:03:37.220 --> 00:03:40.200
  • Let me say it again, because at some point in this message,
  • 00:03:40.230 --> 00:03:43.080
  • you're going to catch this.
  • 00:03:43.110 --> 00:03:49.090
  • We have a Savior!
  • 00:03:49.120 --> 00:03:51.260
  • The reason we're happy is because we have a Savior.
  • 00:03:51.290 --> 00:03:58.130
  • And if you don't know it, you need saving.
  • 00:03:58.160 --> 00:04:02.170
  • Now if you're married, you could simply ask your spouse
  • 00:04:02.200 --> 00:04:05.150
  • how much you need saving!
  • 00:04:05.180 --> 00:04:09.230
  • But you still need saving to this day, and we have this
  • 00:04:09.260 --> 00:04:13.290
  • wonderful Savior.
  • 00:04:14.020 --> 00:04:15.090
  • So, before we get to Joshua 5, let me show you just a few
  • 00:04:15.120 --> 00:04:18.070
  • other Scriptures that actually tie into this season
  • 00:04:18.100 --> 00:04:20.130
  • as well, about Jesus being our Savior.
  • 00:04:20.160 --> 00:04:23.130
  • Luke 2:11, "For there is born to you this day in the city
  • 00:04:23.160 --> 00:04:27.180
  • of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord".
  • 00:04:27.210 --> 00:04:34.110
  • Matthew 1:21, "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall
  • 00:04:34.140 --> 00:04:37.050
  • call His name Jesus, for He will save His people
  • 00:04:37.080 --> 00:04:43.220
  • from their sins".
  • 00:04:43.250 --> 00:04:46.060
  • The reason He's called that is because He's a Savior,
  • 00:04:46.090 --> 00:04:48.020
  • and Jesus is the Greek word for Yeshua, but it means Savior.
  • 00:04:48.050 --> 00:04:52.190
  • As a matter of fact, I'll show it to you straight out
  • 00:04:52.220 --> 00:04:54.090
  • of the -- well, not a Greek lexicon.
  • 00:04:54.120 --> 00:04:56.140
  • Jesus is a Greek transliteration for the Hebrew
  • 00:04:56.170 --> 00:05:00.080
  • name Joshua, and even Joshua is the English
  • 00:05:00.110 --> 00:05:04.160
  • way we would say Yeshua, the Hebrew name.
  • 00:05:04.190 --> 00:05:07.250
  • Now, I don't want to burst your bubble, but just so you know,
  • 00:05:07.280 --> 00:05:12.100
  • Jesus was never called Jesus when He was on this earth.
  • 00:05:12.130 --> 00:05:18.180
  • That's a Greek name.
  • 00:05:18.210 --> 00:05:20.040
  • He wasn't called Jesus until about the 17th century,
  • 00:05:20.070 --> 00:05:22.160
  • by the way.
  • 00:05:22.190 --> 00:05:26.100
  • Man, it seems like I just left the air out of the room.
  • 00:05:26.130 --> 00:05:28.270
  • I'm sorry!
  • 00:05:29.000 --> 00:05:31.020
  • He was called Yeshua, right?
  • 00:05:31.050 --> 00:05:34.080
  • That's His Hebrew name.
  • 00:05:34.110 --> 00:05:35.250
  • He was called Yeshua.
  • 00:05:35.280 --> 00:05:37.020
  • But, it's okay that His adoptive family calls Him Jesus,
  • 00:05:37.050 --> 00:05:41.180
  • because they tried to say, no, his name's Yeshua.
  • 00:05:41.210 --> 00:05:43.260
  • Well, I can't say Yeshua.
  • 00:05:43.290 --> 00:05:44.250
  • Okay, say Jesus then.
  • 00:05:44.280 --> 00:05:45.220
  • All right, Jesus.
  • 00:05:45.250 --> 00:05:49.140
  • Well, Jesus means -- in the Greek, it means Savior.
  • 00:05:49.170 --> 00:05:54.180
  • Yeshua, in Hebrew, means God is salvation,
  • 00:05:54.210 --> 00:06:01.100
  • and we say it Joshua.
  • 00:06:01.130 --> 00:06:03.070
  • That's the way we would say it in English.
  • 00:06:03.100 --> 00:06:04.190
  • My oldest son's name is Joshua.
  • 00:06:04.220 --> 00:06:08.120
  • There were two prominent Joshuas in the Old Testament.
  • 00:06:08.150 --> 00:06:12.240
  • One was the captain of Israel who led them into
  • 00:06:12.270 --> 00:06:17.090
  • the Promised Land, and that's Joshua 5.
  • 00:06:17.120 --> 00:06:21.220
  • The other, in Zachariah, was the high priest, now get
  • 00:06:21.250 --> 00:06:25.040
  • this, who led them back into the Promised Land after
  • 00:06:25.070 --> 00:06:30.030
  • they'd been in Babylonian captivity 70 years.
  • 00:06:30.060 --> 00:06:35.170
  • And God decides to name His son Yeshua,
  • 00:06:35.200 --> 00:06:39.050
  • and there are two prominent ones.
  • 00:06:39.080 --> 00:06:40.280
  • One leads them into the Promised Land, and one leads
  • 00:06:41.010 --> 00:06:43.040
  • them back into the Promised Land after they've blown it.
  • 00:06:43.070 --> 00:06:47.220
  • I hope you're seeing grace here, because you've blown it.
  • 00:06:47.250 --> 00:06:51.130
  • Again, if you're married, ask your spouse if you can't
  • 00:06:51.160 --> 00:06:53.290
  • remember when you blew it.
  • 00:06:54.020 --> 00:06:56.150
  • And especially if you're the man, you can ask her
  • 00:06:56.180 --> 00:06:58.020
  • and she can actually give you dates and times.
  • 00:06:58.050 --> 00:07:02.260
  • So, let me show you, from these two Old Testament
  • 00:07:02.290 --> 00:07:05.050
  • Joshuas, what the New Testament Joshua does, alright?
  • 00:07:05.080 --> 00:07:09.120
  • Here are two things.
  • 00:07:09.150 --> 00:07:10.150
  • Number one, He saves us from the dominion of sin.
  • 00:07:10.180 --> 00:07:15.270
  • He saves us from the dominion, the power,
  • 00:07:16.000 --> 00:07:20.000
  • the authority, the rulership, of sin.
  • 00:07:20.030 --> 00:07:23.190
  • Now, when I said Joshua, and there are two prominent
  • 00:07:23.220 --> 00:07:26.160
  • in the Old Testament, you probably thought of the first
  • 00:07:26.190 --> 00:07:28.210
  • one, Moses' successor.
  • 00:07:28.240 --> 00:07:32.080
  • What you might not know is, is that his mother never
  • 00:07:32.110 --> 00:07:36.260
  • called him Joshua.
  • 00:07:36.290 --> 00:07:40.130
  • His mother didn't name him Joshua.
  • 00:07:40.160 --> 00:07:43.180
  • All right, let me show it to you, and we'll get to Joshua 5
  • 00:07:43.210 --> 00:07:46.060
  • in a minute, by the way.
  • 00:07:46.090 --> 00:07:47.140
  • Let me show it to you.
  • 00:07:47.170 --> 00:07:48.210
  • Numbers 13:16 says, "These are the names of the men who
  • 00:07:48.240 --> 00:07:52.080
  • Moses sent to spy out the land.
  • 00:07:52.110 --> 00:07:56.250
  • And Moses called Hoshea, the son of Nun, Joshua."
  • 00:07:56.280 --> 00:08:03.230
  • Now, it's a little easier in the Old King James.
  • 00:08:03.260 --> 00:08:06.270
  • I like it how it reads even better.
  • 00:08:07.000 --> 00:08:08.240
  • It says, "And Moses called Oshea", or Oshua,
  • 00:08:08.270 --> 00:08:13.150
  • "the son of Nun, Jehoshua." Jehoshua.
  • 00:08:13.180 --> 00:08:17.270
  • In other words, he was named Hoshua, which means salvation.
  • 00:08:18.000 --> 00:08:22.000
  • Moses adds the J-E to it, which is short for Jehovah.
  • 00:08:22.030 --> 00:08:26.150
  • Many Hebrew words did that, and here's what it means now.
  • 00:08:26.180 --> 00:08:30.000
  • God is salvation.
  • 00:08:30.030 --> 00:08:32.220
  • This is wonderful to me, because God gave the law
  • 00:08:32.250 --> 00:08:35.250
  • through Moses, and yet Moses said, but that's not enough.
  • 00:08:35.280 --> 00:08:40.220
  • The only way we're going to get there is that God
  • 00:08:40.250 --> 00:08:43.090
  • is our salvation.
  • 00:08:43.120 --> 00:08:44.080
  • So, his name was Jehoshua.
  • 00:08:44.110 --> 00:08:47.020
  • And then you think, well, how did he be called Joshua?
  • 00:08:47.050 --> 00:08:49.180
  • Well, if you say it fast a few times, you'll figure it out.
  • 00:08:49.210 --> 00:08:53.020
  • Jehoshua, Jehoshua, Jehoshua, Jehoshua, Joshua,
  • 00:08:53.050 --> 00:08:55.110
  • Joshua.
  • 00:08:55.140 --> 00:08:58.010
  • And maybe his mother actually did call him that,
  • 00:08:58.040 --> 00:08:59.240
  • and that's how he got it, because she just started saying,
  • 00:08:59.270 --> 00:09:01.150
  • Joshua, get in here!
  • 00:09:01.180 --> 00:09:02.260
  • I don't know.
  • 00:09:02.290 --> 00:09:06.130
  • But, He's Moses' successor, and what did Moses give us?
  • 00:09:06.160 --> 00:09:09.180
  • The law.
  • 00:09:09.210 --> 00:09:12.000
  • John 1:17 says, "For the law was given through Moses,
  • 00:09:12.030 --> 00:09:14.260
  • but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ".
  • 00:09:14.290 --> 00:09:19.110
  • And just Jesus Christ here would be Yeshua
  • 00:09:19.140 --> 00:09:22.000
  • Hamashiach -- Yeshua, the Messiah.
  • 00:09:22.030 --> 00:09:25.170
  • By the way, this word, but, is not in the original
  • 00:09:25.200 --> 00:09:31.160
  • language here.
  • 00:09:31.190 --> 00:09:32.260
  • Just so you know, because it's such a contrast,
  • 00:09:32.290 --> 00:09:35.020
  • almost like the law is bad.
  • 00:09:35.050 --> 00:09:37.060
  • But, it's not there.
  • 00:09:37.090 --> 00:09:38.080
  • Basically, it's two statements in Greek.
  • 00:09:38.110 --> 00:09:40.260
  • The law came through Moses, period.
  • 00:09:40.290 --> 00:09:44.090
  • Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
  • 00:09:44.120 --> 00:09:47.140
  • So, the law's not bad. Why?
  • 00:09:47.170 --> 00:09:48.230
  • Because the law leads us to God is salvation.
  • 00:09:48.260 --> 00:09:53.080
  • That's what the law does.
  • 00:09:53.110 --> 00:09:55.090
  • Paul tells us that over and over.
  • 00:09:55.120 --> 00:09:56.170
  • The law is not bad, it leads us to God is salvation.
  • 00:09:56.200 --> 00:09:59.280
  • It leads us to Yeshua, you see.
  • 00:10:00.010 --> 00:10:02.200
  • But, here's what we need to understand.
  • 00:10:02.230 --> 00:10:04.210
  • Romans - oh, no, let me show you one other verse before
  • 00:10:04.240 --> 00:10:06.260
  • I show you that one.
  • 00:10:06.290 --> 00:10:08.060
  • Isaiah 43:11 says, "I, even I, am the Lord, and besides me,
  • 00:10:08.090 --> 00:10:13.080
  • there is no Savior".
  • 00:10:13.110 --> 00:10:16.170
  • Salvation doesn't come from being perfect.
  • 00:10:16.200 --> 00:10:19.010
  • It comes from believing in the perfect one.
  • 00:10:19.040 --> 00:10:22.210
  • Now, here's how we're not under sin, under
  • 00:10:22.240 --> 00:10:25.140
  • the dominion of sin.
  • 00:10:25.170 --> 00:10:26.200
  • Romans 6:14, "Sin shall not have dominion over you,
  • 00:10:26.230 --> 00:10:29.050
  • for you are not under law, but under grace".
  • 00:10:29.080 --> 00:10:31.260
  • Now, let me interpret that to what we're saying.
  • 00:10:31.290 --> 00:10:34.110
  • He's saying you're not under Moses, you're under Yeshua.
  • 00:10:34.140 --> 00:10:38.020
  • You're not under the law, but you're under grace.
  • 00:10:38.050 --> 00:10:40.120
  • Now, so let me show you, in Joshua 5.
  • 00:10:40.150 --> 00:10:43.120
  • Here's something really amazing to me.
  • 00:10:43.150 --> 00:10:45.200
  • The earthly Joshua met the heavenly Joshua.
  • 00:10:45.230 --> 00:10:51.080
  • Joshua met Yeshua.
  • 00:10:51.110 --> 00:10:54.120
  • Watch this, Joshua 5:13.
  • 00:10:54.150 --> 00:10:56.270
  • "And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho,
  • 00:10:57.000 --> 00:11:00.020
  • that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man",
  • 00:11:00.050 --> 00:11:03.070
  • capital M, by the way, because it's referring to Jesus.
  • 00:11:03.100 --> 00:11:07.020
  • "A Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand.
  • 00:11:07.050 --> 00:11:14.160
  • And Joshua went to Him."
  • 00:11:14.190 --> 00:11:16.110
  • Now, if this had been me, it would have said, and Robert
  • 00:11:16.140 --> 00:11:18.150
  • went the other way.
  • 00:11:18.180 --> 00:11:23.100
  • "Joshua went to Him and he said to Him", now, this is a
  • 00:11:23.130 --> 00:11:27.240
  • great question, "Are you for us or for our adversaries?
  • 00:11:27.270 --> 00:11:31.060
  • So, He said, "No, but as Commander of the army
  • 00:11:31.090 --> 00:11:33.260
  • of the Lord I have now come".
  • 00:11:33.290 --> 00:11:35.280
  • And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshipped,
  • 00:11:36.010 --> 00:11:38.270
  • and said to Him, "What does my Lord say to His servant"?
  • 00:11:39.000 --> 00:11:42.180
  • Then the Commander of the Lord's army said to Joshua,
  • 00:11:42.210 --> 00:11:45.080
  • "Take your sandal off your foot, for the place
  • 00:11:45.110 --> 00:11:47.170
  • where you stand is holy."
  • 00:11:47.200 --> 00:11:49.120
  • And Joshua did so."
  • 00:11:49.150 --> 00:11:50.150
  • By the way, what makes it holy is God's there.
  • 00:11:50.180 --> 00:11:53.150
  • That's what made the land, the ground where the burning
  • 00:11:53.180 --> 00:11:55.150
  • bush was holy, because God's there.
  • 00:11:55.180 --> 00:11:58.100
  • That's what makes our services holy, because
  • 00:11:58.130 --> 00:12:02.140
  • the presence of God is here.
  • 00:12:02.170 --> 00:12:04.260
  • Okay, but I love Jesus' answer, and somehow we just
  • 00:12:04.290 --> 00:12:07.260
  • read over it, because we miss the first word.
  • 00:12:07.290 --> 00:12:09.290
  • Joshua said, are you for us, or are you for them?
  • 00:12:10.020 --> 00:12:12.290
  • And Jesus said, no. No.
  • 00:12:13.020 --> 00:12:19.170
  • I remember a while back I got a telephone call at home,
  • 00:12:19.200 --> 00:12:24.090
  • and we're on that No Call List, but every now
  • 00:12:24.120 --> 00:12:26.040
  • and then, you know, a telemarketer gets through.
  • 00:12:26.070 --> 00:12:28.080
  • And this person was very excited, and shared with me
  • 00:12:28.110 --> 00:12:31.220
  • that I'd won a free cruise.
  • 00:12:31.250 --> 00:12:35.040
  • And, but in order to upgrade my room, it was going
  • 00:12:35.070 --> 00:12:42.210
  • to be $300 per person for the free cruise.
  • 00:12:42.240 --> 00:12:47.120
  • And then the person said this.
  • 00:12:47.150 --> 00:12:48.260
  • Would you like to put that on MasterCard or Visa?
  • 00:12:48.290 --> 00:12:51.260
  • Do you know what my answer was?
  • 00:12:51.290 --> 00:12:53.120
  • No. That's what happens here.
  • 00:12:53.150 --> 00:12:57.150
  • Are you for us or for them?
  • 00:12:57.180 --> 00:12:59.230
  • Here's what He said, no.
  • 00:12:59.260 --> 00:13:00.260
  • Let me say it another way.
  • 00:13:00.290 --> 00:13:01.270
  • He said, Joshua, I didn't come to take sides,
  • 00:13:02.000 --> 00:13:05.080
  • I came to take over.
  • 00:13:05.110 --> 00:13:10.250
  • And I'm not here to get on your side.
  • 00:13:10.280 --> 00:13:13.290
  • I'm here to get you on the winning side, which is my side.
  • 00:13:14.020 --> 00:13:19.030
  • And Joshua takes his shoes off.
  • 00:13:19.060 --> 00:13:20.190
  • Now, a lot of people don't realize what this means.
  • 00:13:20.220 --> 00:13:23.080
  • In Jewish culture, it meant you give your rights up.
  • 00:13:23.110 --> 00:13:29.190
  • When you take your shoes off, you give your rights up.
  • 00:13:29.220 --> 00:13:31.140
  • If you remember, Boaz wants to marry Ruth.
  • 00:13:31.170 --> 00:13:34.110
  • He goes to the near kinsman, who has the right to marry her
  • 00:13:34.140 --> 00:13:37.220
  • and to buy the land back.
  • 00:13:37.250 --> 00:13:40.070
  • He's got the right.
  • 00:13:40.100 --> 00:13:41.190
  • That's called the right of redemption.
  • 00:13:41.220 --> 00:13:44.010
  • And, Ruth 4:8, it says, "Therefore the close relative",
  • 00:13:44.040 --> 00:13:46.270
  • or near kinsman, the Old King James says,
  • 00:13:47.000 --> 00:13:49.030
  • "said to Boaz, "Buy it for yourself",
  • 00:13:49.060 --> 00:13:51.100
  • so he took off his sandal."
  • 00:13:51.130 --> 00:13:53.260
  • See, in other words, he gave up his right.
  • 00:13:53.290 --> 00:13:55.200
  • I know I have the right, I know I'm next in line,
  • 00:13:55.230 --> 00:13:59.030
  • but I'm going to give up my right.
  • 00:13:59.060 --> 00:14:00.240
  • Okay, listen.
  • 00:14:00.270 --> 00:14:02.000
  • This is so important for us to understand.
  • 00:14:02.030 --> 00:14:04.210
  • The way sin does not have dominion over you is you
  • 00:14:04.240 --> 00:14:08.230
  • take your shoes off to the Commander of the Lord's army.
  • 00:14:08.260 --> 00:14:13.070
  • That's the way.
  • 00:14:13.100 --> 00:14:16.060
  • You submit to Him as the king of your life,
  • 00:14:16.090 --> 00:14:22.150
  • and He's grace.
  • 00:14:22.180 --> 00:14:24.060
  • The problem is that many of us put our shoes back on,
  • 00:14:24.090 --> 00:14:30.270
  • and start believing we can do it on our own.
  • 00:14:31.000 --> 00:14:33.020
  • We know we need a Savior when someone shares the Gospel
  • 00:14:33.050 --> 00:14:36.210
  • with us for that first, or second, or third time,
  • 00:14:36.240 --> 00:14:38.210
  • and we finally comprehend it.
  • 00:14:38.240 --> 00:14:39.280
  • We say, man, I need a Savior.
  • 00:14:40.010 --> 00:14:42.070
  • But, 10, 20 years later, 30, after we've grown, and we've
  • 00:14:42.100 --> 00:14:46.010
  • taken classes, and now we actually teach the classes,
  • 00:14:46.040 --> 00:14:49.290
  • we might not think we need a Savior as much.
  • 00:14:50.020 --> 00:14:55.130
  • Okay, so He saves us from the dominion of sin.
  • 00:14:55.160 --> 00:14:57.260
  • Here's number two.
  • 00:14:57.290 --> 00:14:59.210
  • He saves us from the guilt of sin.
  • 00:14:59.240 --> 00:15:05.010
  • He saves us from the guilt of sin.
  • 00:15:05.040 --> 00:15:07.130
  • Okay now, Zachariah 3, if you're there.
  • 00:15:07.160 --> 00:15:10.110
  • Zachariah 3:1, it says, "Then he showed me Joshua,
  • 00:15:10.140 --> 00:15:16.210
  • the high priest, standing before the Angel of the Lord".
  • 00:15:16.240 --> 00:15:22.220
  • Now, most of you have been here for a while, and you're
  • 00:15:22.250 --> 00:15:24.190
  • familiar with biblical language.
  • 00:15:24.220 --> 00:15:27.250
  • When it refers to the Angel of the Lord in the Old Testament,
  • 00:15:27.280 --> 00:15:31.020
  • it's referring to Jesus.
  • 00:15:31.050 --> 00:15:32.220
  • The Angel of the Lord visited Abraham and Sarah,
  • 00:15:32.250 --> 00:15:35.190
  • and said, at this time next year, I will return to you
  • 00:15:35.220 --> 00:15:38.200
  • and you will have a child. Jesus.
  • 00:15:38.230 --> 00:15:40.200
  • And we know that through -- you can study
  • 00:15:40.230 --> 00:15:42.120
  • that yourself and see it.
  • 00:15:42.150 --> 00:15:45.240
  • The Angel of the Lord.
  • 00:15:45.270 --> 00:15:47.110
  • Joshua, the high priest, is standing before --
  • 00:15:47.140 --> 00:15:49.060
  • Joshua, the high priest.
  • 00:15:49.090 --> 00:15:52.170
  • "And Satan, standing at his right hand to oppose him."
  • 00:15:52.200 --> 00:15:56.220
  • Notice Satan is always there to accuse the brethren.
  • 00:15:56.250 --> 00:15:59.190
  • "And the Lord said to Satan, "The Lord rebuke you, Satan!"
  • 00:15:59.220 --> 00:16:04.160
  • That's good news right there.
  • 00:16:04.190 --> 00:16:06.110
  • "The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you!
  • 00:16:06.140 --> 00:16:10.000
  • Is this not", referring now to Joshua,
  • 00:16:10.030 --> 00:16:12.250
  • "a brand plucked from the fire?
  • 00:16:12.280 --> 00:16:15.160
  • Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments."
  • 00:16:15.190 --> 00:16:18.190
  • Please see the wonderful picture of salvation here.
  • 00:16:18.220 --> 00:16:21.120
  • It's so clear.
  • 00:16:21.150 --> 00:16:22.230
  • "And was standing before the Angel.
  • 00:16:22.260 --> 00:16:25.060
  • Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him,
  • 00:16:25.090 --> 00:16:27.170
  • saying, "Take away the filthy garments from him".
  • 00:16:27.200 --> 00:16:31.040
  • Take away, notice -- not just take off, but take them away.
  • 00:16:31.070 --> 00:16:35.000
  • "And to him He said, "See" -- he's explaining what
  • 00:16:35.030 --> 00:16:37.260
  • He's just done.
  • 00:16:37.290 --> 00:16:39.070
  • "I have removed your inequity from you,
  • 00:16:39.100 --> 00:16:42.220
  • and I will clothe you with rich robes".
  • 00:16:42.250 --> 00:16:47.070
  • And Isaiah 61:10 tells us those robes are robes
  • 00:16:47.100 --> 00:16:49.210
  • of righteousness, right standing with God.
  • 00:16:49.240 --> 00:16:52.110
  • I'll remove your inequity, and I'll clothe you
  • 00:16:52.140 --> 00:16:54.140
  • with my righteousness.
  • 00:16:54.170 --> 00:16:56.120
  • If you look on down at Verse 9, "I will remove
  • 00:16:56.150 --> 00:16:59.150
  • the inequity of that land in one day".
  • 00:16:59.180 --> 00:17:03.050
  • And Psalm 103:12, "As far as the east is from the west,
  • 00:17:03.080 --> 00:17:06.000
  • so far is He removed our transgressions from us".
  • 00:17:06.030 --> 00:17:11.280
  • Okay. This is grace.
  • 00:17:12.010 --> 00:17:15.020
  • This is what our high priest does!
  • 00:17:15.050 --> 00:17:16.280
  • He removes our filthy rags.
  • 00:17:17.010 --> 00:17:20.240
  • Even our righteousness is as filthy rags.
  • 00:17:20.270 --> 00:17:22.290
  • He removes our sin, our inequity.
  • 00:17:23.020 --> 00:17:26.030
  • "I have removed your inequity."
  • 00:17:26.060 --> 00:17:27.070
  • He says it right there.
  • 00:17:27.100 --> 00:17:28.070
  • "I have removed your inequity."
  • 00:17:28.100 --> 00:17:30.020
  • He removes our inequity, as far as the east is from the west.
  • 00:17:30.050 --> 00:17:33.290
  • And He clothes us with His righteousness.
  • 00:17:34.020 --> 00:17:37.010
  • This is exemplary of what Jesus does for us.
  • 00:17:37.040 --> 00:17:41.190
  • It's salvation.
  • 00:17:41.220 --> 00:17:44.040
  • Now, I was reading through -- years,
  • 00:17:44.070 --> 00:17:46.220
  • probably 10 or 12 years ago.
  • 00:17:46.250 --> 00:17:50.270
  • I was battling through, still.
  • 00:17:51.000 --> 00:17:52.150
  • The church was growing.
  • 00:17:52.180 --> 00:17:53.190
  • I was battling through a lot of guilt and shame,
  • 00:17:53.220 --> 00:17:55.200
  • because of my past.
  • 00:17:55.230 --> 00:17:57.160
  • And I was reading through Romans in another version,
  • 00:17:57.190 --> 00:18:00.220
  • in a modern version, like a dynamic translation,
  • 00:18:00.250 --> 00:18:03.120
  • not an exact equivalency translation,
  • 00:18:03.150 --> 00:18:05.130
  • a dynamic equivalency, which is kind of like
  • 00:18:05.160 --> 00:18:08.110
  • New Living Translation, and The Message, and things like that.
  • 00:18:08.140 --> 00:18:11.130
  • And so, I'm reading through this, and it says,
  • 00:18:11.160 --> 00:18:13.090
  • in that version, "He has declared us not guilty".
  • 00:18:13.120 --> 00:18:18.190
  • He has declared us not guilty.
  • 00:18:18.220 --> 00:18:21.130
  • And without realizing it, I kind of went like this, huh,
  • 00:18:21.160 --> 00:18:25.190
  • and just kind of went on.
  • 00:18:25.220 --> 00:18:27.100
  • And the Lord said to me, whoa, whoa, wait a minute.
  • 00:18:27.130 --> 00:18:30.140
  • What is that, huh, like that?
  • 00:18:30.170 --> 00:18:34.160
  • And so, I said to the Lord, I said, well, Lord, I know
  • 00:18:34.190 --> 00:18:37.120
  • that you've declared me not righteous --
  • 00:18:37.150 --> 00:18:40.290
  • I mean, I'm not guilty.
  • 00:18:41.020 --> 00:18:42.150
  • I know you've declared me not guilty, and I appreciate that.
  • 00:18:42.180 --> 00:18:46.030
  • Thank you for that.
  • 00:18:46.060 --> 00:18:48.060
  • And I know you've declared me not guilty,
  • 00:18:48.090 --> 00:18:51.010
  • but you and I know the truth.
  • 00:18:51.040 --> 00:18:56.050
  • That's what I said.
  • 00:18:56.080 --> 00:18:58.190
  • But I mean, you and I know I really am guilty.
  • 00:18:58.220 --> 00:19:03.030
  • But you've declared me not guilty, and I appreciate that,
  • 00:19:03.060 --> 00:19:06.130
  • but I know I really am guilty.
  • 00:19:06.160 --> 00:19:09.110
  • And it was as if I had angered Him, that I had insulted Him,
  • 00:19:09.140 --> 00:19:15.250
  • and He very forcefully in my spirit, not out loud,
  • 00:19:15.280 --> 00:19:19.060
  • in my spirit, He said to me, I am not unjust.
  • 00:19:19.090 --> 00:19:25.030
  • I mean, it was strong.
  • 00:19:25.060 --> 00:19:26.070
  • And He said, and I am not a liar.
  • 00:19:26.100 --> 00:19:30.040
  • And I said, well, Lord, I didn't call you a liar.
  • 00:19:30.070 --> 00:19:31.290
  • He said, yes, you did.
  • 00:19:32.020 --> 00:19:34.070
  • You just said that I said something that's not true.
  • 00:19:34.100 --> 00:19:39.180
  • You said I had declared you not guilty,
  • 00:19:39.210 --> 00:19:42.130
  • but you really are guilty.
  • 00:19:42.160 --> 00:19:43.180
  • And He said, you need to understand something.
  • 00:19:43.210 --> 00:19:45.090
  • I couldn't do that.
  • 00:19:45.120 --> 00:19:46.290
  • I couldn't say you are not guilty unless
  • 00:19:47.020 --> 00:19:49.210
  • you are not guilty.
  • 00:19:49.240 --> 00:19:51.120
  • I mean, it was so strong in my spirit!
  • 00:19:51.150 --> 00:19:54.250
  • So, I said, well, Lord, I don't understand this then,
  • 00:19:54.280 --> 00:19:59.060
  • because I know I am guilty.
  • 00:19:59.090 --> 00:20:01.000
  • How would you declare me not guilty?
  • 00:20:01.030 --> 00:20:02.290
  • He said, you still don't get it, do you?
  • 00:20:03.020 --> 00:20:05.090
  • He said, I removed your sin.
  • 00:20:05.120 --> 00:20:09.070
  • I removed your sin.
  • 00:20:09.100 --> 00:20:10.150
  • I took your sin off of you.
  • 00:20:10.180 --> 00:20:12.130
  • And He said, here's the reason that I declared
  • 00:20:12.160 --> 00:20:14.110
  • you not guilty, is because I took your sin, all of it,
  • 00:20:14.140 --> 00:20:17.260
  • off of you, and I put it on my Son, and I declared
  • 00:20:17.290 --> 00:20:27.030
  • Him guilty, and He died in your place.
  • 00:20:27.060 --> 00:20:33.090
  • And when I look at you, I don't see sin,
  • 00:20:33.120 --> 00:20:37.000
  • because I have removed it.
  • 00:20:37.030 --> 00:20:39.270
  • And so, I can legally and justly declare you not guilty.
  • 00:20:40.000 --> 00:20:47.120
  • You're not guilty.
  • 00:20:47.150 --> 00:20:49.200
  • So we have to understand, that's what grace is!
  • 00:20:49.230 --> 00:20:52.010
  • Our amazing Savior took our inequity.
  • 00:20:52.040 --> 00:20:56.280
  • One of my favorite Scriptures may not be a favorite
  • 00:20:57.010 --> 00:21:02.080
  • for you, but it's Hebrews 7:25.
  • 00:21:02.110 --> 00:21:06.170
  • It says, "Therefore He is also able", now watch this,
  • 00:21:06.200 --> 00:21:11.040
  • "to save to the uttermost those who come to God
  • 00:21:11.070 --> 00:21:17.120
  • through Him, since He always lives to make
  • 00:21:17.150 --> 00:21:21.200
  • intercession for them".
  • 00:21:21.230 --> 00:21:23.010
  • He is able to save to the uttermost.
  • 00:21:23.040 --> 00:21:27.120
  • This word, uttermost, in the Greek means unlimited
  • 00:21:27.150 --> 00:21:31.100
  • duration of time, forever and always.
  • 00:21:31.130 --> 00:21:36.110
  • Unlimited duration of time.
  • 00:21:36.140 --> 00:21:39.050
  • He's a Savior, but He's able to save you completely.
  • 00:21:39.080 --> 00:21:44.020
  • Now, I want you to think for a moment about these two Joshuas.
  • 00:21:44.050 --> 00:21:48.010
  • One leads the people into the Promised Land.
  • 00:21:48.040 --> 00:21:51.040
  • The other leads the people back into the Promised Land
  • 00:21:51.070 --> 00:21:55.180
  • after they've fallen.
  • 00:21:55.210 --> 00:21:57.240
  • I just want you to know that your Savior is able to lead
  • 00:21:57.270 --> 00:22:03.100
  • you back, even when you mess up.
  • 00:22:03.130 --> 00:22:06.290
  • That's how good He is.
  • 00:22:07.020 --> 00:22:08.100
  • PASTOR ROBERT: Isn't Jesus a great Savior, an amazing Savior?
  • 00:22:08.280 --> 00:22:15.040
  • He not only can lead us into the Promised Land,
  • 00:22:15.070 --> 00:22:18.010
  • He can lead us back into the Promised Land.
  • 00:22:18.040 --> 00:22:21.040
  • You know, I have a friend of mine that I went to college
  • 00:22:21.070 --> 00:22:23.000
  • with, and he became a pastor, and then fell away
  • 00:22:23.030 --> 00:22:26.180
  • from the Lord, lost his family, lost his ministry,
  • 00:22:26.210 --> 00:22:29.120
  • lost everything.
  • 00:22:29.150 --> 00:22:30.280
  • And just a few years ago we reconnected, and he's come back
  • 00:22:31.010 --> 00:22:34.150
  • to the Lord now, and God is doing such a great work
  • 00:22:34.180 --> 00:22:38.200
  • in his life, and the reason why is because
  • 00:22:38.230 --> 00:22:41.260
  • of amazing grace, an amazing Savior.
  • 00:22:41.290 --> 00:22:46.290
  • And I just want to speak to you just for a moment.
  • 00:22:47.020 --> 00:22:49.000
  • Do you need to come to Jesus, or do you need
  • 00:22:49.030 --> 00:22:53.030
  • to come back to Jesus?
  • 00:22:53.060 --> 00:22:55.150
  • And maybe you need to come back to Jesus from being
  • 00:22:55.180 --> 00:22:58.010
  • away for years, or maybe you need to come back to Jesus
  • 00:22:58.040 --> 00:23:02.070
  • from just being away for a few days, but I want you
  • 00:23:02.100 --> 00:23:05.120
  • to know, He's there.
  • 00:23:05.150 --> 00:23:07.100
  • He will welcome you home.
  • 00:23:07.130 --> 00:23:10.190
  • His grace covers our sins.
  • 00:23:10.220 --> 00:23:14.290
  • God is an amazing God.
  • 00:23:15.020 --> 00:23:17.240
  • Jesus is an amazing Savior.
  • 00:23:17.270 --> 00:23:20.280
  • So, I want to encourage you.
  • 00:23:21.010 --> 00:23:22.160
  • Come to Jesus, come back to Jesus, right now.
  • 00:23:22.190 --> 00:23:27.040
  • Hey, thank you so much for joining me for this series,

  • deeper understanding of an often overlooked, and yet,

  • very foundational truth from God's word.

  • 00:23:47.120 --> 00:23:50.090

  • what God's grace really is by breaking down

  • the often misunderstood relationship
  • 00:24:05.270 --> 00:24:07.220
  • between law and grace,
  • 00:24:07.250 --> 00:24:09.160
  • and by showing us how we can live

  • Wait for, wait for you
  • 00:25:24.240 --> 00:25:33.070
  • Here, all my weakness Fades into your strength
  • 00:25:33.100 --> 00:25:46.130
  • Here, I will trust you, Completely unrestrained
  • 00:25:46.160 --> 00:25:59.200
  • I'll wait for, wait for you
  • 00:25:59.230 --> 00:26:06.150
  • Wait for, wait for you
  • 00:26:06.180 --> 00:26:13.030
  • Wait for, wait for you
  • 00:26:13.060 --> 00:26:19.200
  • Wait for, wait for you
  • 00:26:19.230 --> 00:26:27.040
  • Dust and glory meet here, Face to face
  • 00:26:27.070 --> 00:26:33.240
  • Beauty, splendor, Hold my gaze
  • 00:26:33.270 --> 00:26:40.140
  • Dust and glory meet here, Face to Face
  • 00:26:40.170 --> 00:26:47.060
  • Beauty, splendor, Hold my gaze
  • 00:26:47.090 --> 00:26:56.090
  • [Phone ringing]
  • 00:27:00.090 --> 00:27:01.120
  • NARRATOR: One day you wake up asking yourself.
  • 00:27:01.150 --> 00:27:03.190
  • WOMAN: When will it ever end?
  • 00:27:03.220 --> 00:27:05.120
  • [Dishes clanking] No, no, no, no...
  • 00:27:05.150 --> 00:27:08.010
  • It's due when?
  • 00:27:08.040 --> 00:27:09.200
  • No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!
  • 00:27:11.110 --> 00:27:13.170
  • [Whimpering]
  • 00:27:13.200 --> 00:27:14.220
  • [Clock ticking]
  • 00:27:14.250 --> 00:27:15.280
  • [Snoring]
  • 00:27:16.010 --> 00:27:17.160
  • Our fourth quarter TPS -- SON: He followed me home.
  • 00:27:17.190 --> 00:27:19.120
  • [Screaming] Can I keep him?
  • 00:27:19.150 --> 00:27:20.170
  • WOMAN: So, when does it all end?
  • 00:27:20.200 --> 00:27:22.120
  • I discovered it can end every week.
  • 00:27:22.150 --> 00:27:26.120
  • HUSBAND: Hey, tomorrow's our day off.
  • 00:27:26.150 --> 00:27:28.290
  • [Sighing]
  • 00:27:29.020 --> 00:27:30.070
