Trust God and Step Out in Faith.
“Look before you leap,” that’s how the idiom goes. Contained within that nugget of conventional wisdom is the idea that we should be as certain as possible before we risk, that we should ensure there are no dangers standing in our path. And as Christians, we’re very prone to think this way, explains Erwin McManus.
Before we go out in the name of the Lord, we often ask for guidance on where to go. We implore God, “Lord just tell me where to go, and I’ll go.” But there’s a problem with this method of movement, McManus notes, and it’s this: “[We] cannot see the future God has for [us] while we’re standing still.”
This is part of the example the apostle Paul presents to us in Acts. Unsure of where he’s going, Paul doesn’t hesitate. He doesn’t look before he leaps. Paul understands, as McManus says, that our “future only materializes, it only becomes visible, when [we’re] in motion.” Thus we see Paul travelling all over, moving, trusting God to guide his steps...what a marvelous lesson for us.
Many of us may be patiently waiting for God to tell us what the next step is...but maybe the next step is to, well, take a step?
