  • Kerry Shook: This gets to the core of why we carry around
  • 00:00:01.060 --> 00:00:02.090
  • regrets and shame and guilt that are unnecessary.
  • 00:00:02.100 --> 00:00:05.230
  • It's that we don't think we need Christ's
  • 00:00:05.240 --> 00:00:09.030
  • extravagant forgiveness.
  • 00:00:09.040 --> 00:00:11.090
  • 00:00:11.160 --> 00:00:21.150
  • 00:00:21.160 --> 00:00:31.160
  • Kerry: It was the hottest ticket in town because everyone
  • 00:00:34.160 --> 00:00:38.140
  • was curious to get an up-close look at Jesus of Nazareth,
  • 00:00:38.150 --> 00:00:42.120
  • who had been gaining notoriety from his brilliant teaching,
  • 00:00:42.130 --> 00:00:45.160
  • and the influential guests also were hoping that,
  • 00:00:45.170 --> 00:00:49.100
  • just maybe, they would get to see one of Christ's
  • 00:00:49.110 --> 00:00:51.250
  • amazing miracles they'd heard rumors about.
  • 00:00:51.260 --> 00:00:55.170
  • Now, the party was at Simon the Pharisee's house.
  • 00:00:55.180 --> 00:00:58.260
  • Simon was this prominent but prideful religious leader
  • 00:00:58.270 --> 00:01:01.270
  • who was known for throwing these extravagant dinner parties that
  • 00:01:01.280 --> 00:01:05.110
  • everyone wanted an invite to, and this was
  • 00:01:05.120 --> 00:01:08.160
  • the event of the year.
  • 00:01:08.170 --> 00:01:11.160
  • And when all of the influential guests and the wealthy community
  • 00:01:11.170 --> 00:01:15.250
  • leaders and the socialites had gathered and were seated
  • 00:01:15.260 --> 00:01:20.000
  • at the table for dinner, the party was crashed.
  • 00:01:20.010 --> 00:01:25.030
  • The town prostitute came walking through the front door
  • 00:01:25.040 --> 00:01:28.240
  • as everyone just sat there in stunned silence
  • 00:01:28.250 --> 00:01:32.120
  • and couldn't believe that she walked right up to Jesus,
  • 00:01:32.130 --> 00:01:34.260
  • that no one stopped her because no one was expecting it,
  • 00:01:34.270 --> 00:01:38.050
  • and the bowed at Christ's feet.
  • 00:01:38.060 --> 00:01:40.000
  • And with tears streaming down her face,
  • 00:01:40.010 --> 00:01:41.220
  • she opened up a bottle of expensive perfume
  • 00:01:41.230 --> 00:01:43.250
  • and started pouring it on Christ's feet.
  • 00:01:43.260 --> 00:01:46.050
  • And then she took her hair, and began to wash his feet with her
  • 00:01:46.060 --> 00:01:49.130
  • hair as everyone in the room looked at the woman and Jesus
  • 00:01:49.140 --> 00:01:54.180
  • with a critical glare, but no one dared speak a word
  • 00:01:54.190 --> 00:01:59.060
  • until Jesus broke the silence as he looked at the woman
  • 00:01:59.070 --> 00:02:03.200
  • and he spoke to her.
  • 00:02:03.210 --> 00:02:05.290
  • So, I want you to open your Bibles to the book of Luke
  • 00:02:06.000 --> 00:02:08.100
  • to see what Jesus said to her.
  • 00:02:08.110 --> 00:02:11.220
  • And we're concluding this series that we've been in the last
  • 00:02:11.230 --> 00:02:14.080
  • several weeks that we're calling "Fountains," and it's all about
  • 00:02:14.090 --> 00:02:17.120
  • quenching your deepest thirst because Jesus said,
  • 00:02:17.130 --> 00:02:20.050
  • "I'm the fountain of life, and I can quench your deepest thirst.
  • 00:02:20.060 --> 00:02:24.280
  • I can meet your deepest desires because I created you
  • 00:02:24.290 --> 00:02:27.170
  • and I put those desires in your heart.
  • 00:02:27.180 --> 00:02:29.230
  • I know how you're made."
  • 00:02:29.240 --> 00:02:31.120
  • And Jesus said, "I have come to give life,
  • 00:02:31.130 --> 00:02:34.000
  • life in all its fullness."
  • 00:02:34.010 --> 00:02:35.100
  • But it's really hard to live life in all its fullness
  • 00:02:35.110 --> 00:02:37.100
  • if you're weighed down from regrets from the past,
  • 00:02:37.110 --> 00:02:42.040
  • like this woman was.
  • 00:02:42.050 --> 00:02:44.080
  • So, would you stand in honor of God's Word?
  • 00:02:44.090 --> 00:02:46.140
  • And I wanna welcome all of you worshiping with us
  • 00:02:46.150 --> 00:02:48.140
  • at our satellite campuses, and everyone worshiping
  • 00:02:48.150 --> 00:02:50.160
  • with us through our broadcast ministry around the world.
  • 00:02:50.170 --> 00:02:53.110
  • Wherever you are, you're welcome,
  • 00:02:53.120 --> 00:02:55.010
  • from the Woodlands to the world.
  • 00:02:55.020 --> 00:02:56.290
  • We're built on God's Word as one church.
  • 00:02:57.000 --> 00:02:59.080
  • And I want you just to follow along with me in Luke 7:48:
  • 00:02:59.090 --> 00:03:03.110
  • "And he said to her, 'Your sins are forgiven.'
  • 00:03:04.160 --> 00:03:08.050
  • Then the other guests began to say to themselves,
  • 00:03:08.060 --> 00:03:10.190
  • 'Who can this man be who even forgives sins?'
  • 00:03:10.200 --> 00:03:14.030
  • But he said to the woman, 'Your faith has cured you:
  • 00:03:14.040 --> 00:03:16.280
  • go, and be at peace.'"
  • 00:03:16.290 --> 00:03:19.050
  • You can be seated, and I want you to underline the last phrase
  • 00:03:19.060 --> 00:03:22.160
  • that Jesus spoke to this woman: "Go, and be at peace."
  • 00:03:22.170 --> 00:03:27.290
  • I love that because after Jesus had forgiven her of all
  • 00:03:28.000 --> 00:03:30.030
  • her sins, after he'd healed her of all of her past regrets,
  • 00:03:30.040 --> 00:03:33.200
  • he says, "You can go into the future boldly because
  • 00:03:33.210 --> 00:03:37.100
  • you've made peace with the past."
  • 00:03:37.110 --> 00:03:39.200
  • We all have regrets because we've all sinned.
  • 00:03:39.210 --> 00:03:41.180
  • We all have failures and mistakes.
  • 00:03:41.190 --> 00:03:43.210
  • And we can't go back into the past and make it perfect,
  • 00:03:43.220 --> 00:03:47.070
  • but we can make peace with the past
  • 00:03:47.080 --> 00:03:49.260
  • so we can walk powerfully into the future.
  • 00:03:49.270 --> 00:03:53.180
  • You see, this woman, for the first time in her life,
  • 00:03:53.190 --> 00:03:56.020
  • experienced peace from all the crushing weight of her regrets
  • 00:03:56.030 --> 00:04:02.070
  • and sins and shame and guilt.
  • 00:04:02.080 --> 00:04:05.070
  • For the first time in her life, she tasted the living waters
  • 00:04:05.080 --> 00:04:07.200
  • of unconditional love that she had been thirsting for
  • 00:04:07.210 --> 00:04:10.200
  • her whole life.
  • 00:04:10.210 --> 00:04:12.210
  • And she was immediately filled with an unexplainable river
  • 00:04:12.220 --> 00:04:17.010
  • of peace that flowed over her soul and washed away
  • 00:04:17.020 --> 00:04:19.240
  • all her fears and anxiety.
  • 00:04:19.250 --> 00:04:22.260
  • I want you to notice this story is really a contrast between two
  • 00:04:22.270 --> 00:04:27.200
  • people: the Pharisee who didn't receive forgiveness and didn't
  • 00:04:27.210 --> 00:04:31.080
  • get his regrets washed away, and the prostitute who did.
  • 00:04:31.090 --> 00:04:36.270
  • And in this, we see that there are two things that can keep us
  • 00:04:36.280 --> 00:04:40.200
  • from experiencing Christ's forgiveness.
  • 00:04:40.210 --> 00:04:44.200
  • And there are two things that can keep us really
  • 00:04:44.210 --> 00:04:47.280
  • carrying around the weight of our past regrets.
  • 00:04:47.290 --> 00:04:51.280
  • The first is what I call, "regrets of ignorance,"
  • 00:04:51.290 --> 00:04:55.060
  • regrets of ignorance.
  • 00:04:55.070 --> 00:04:59.090
  • And we see that after the woman poured the perfume
  • 00:04:59.100 --> 00:05:01.270
  • on Jesus's feet.
  • 00:05:01.280 --> 00:05:03.070
  • Simon looked at the situation, evaluated it,
  • 00:05:03.080 --> 00:05:06.090
  • and summed it up right away.
  • 00:05:06.100 --> 00:05:07.290
  • He says this in Luke 7:39: "When the Pharisee who had invited him
  • 00:05:08.000 --> 00:05:12.160
  • saw this, he said to himself, 'If this man were a prophet,
  • 00:05:12.170 --> 00:05:15.200
  • he would have known who is touching him,
  • 00:05:15.210 --> 00:05:17.240
  • and what kind of woman she is, that she is a sinner.'"
  • 00:05:17.250 --> 00:05:21.100
  • So, Simon ignorantly thought that, "there's no way Jesus
  • 00:05:21.110 --> 00:05:26.240
  • could be the Son of God like some people were saying.
  • 00:05:26.250 --> 00:05:29.130
  • There's no way that he could even be a prophet,
  • 00:05:29.140 --> 00:05:31.200
  • because if he was a prophet, he would know that this woman
  • 00:05:31.210 --> 00:05:33.190
  • who is right next to him, touching him,
  • 00:05:33.200 --> 00:05:36.100
  • is a terrible sinner.
  • 00:05:36.110 --> 00:05:38.120
  • She's the town prostitute, the worst person in town,
  • 00:05:38.130 --> 00:05:40.280
  • and he wouldn't let her get close to him.
  • 00:05:40.290 --> 00:05:43.230
  • He would've kicked her out of the house."
  • 00:05:43.240 --> 00:05:47.060
  • But Simon was ignorant.
  • 00:05:47.070 --> 00:05:49.100
  • He looked at the situation from a completely surface level,
  • 00:05:49.110 --> 00:05:52.040
  • and he summed it all up, and he was totally wrong.
  • 00:05:52.050 --> 00:05:54.020
  • He had no clue about what was goin' on
  • 00:05:54.030 --> 00:05:56.030
  • at a deeper spiritual level.
  • 00:05:56.040 --> 00:05:58.140
  • And so, there was ignorance, but it really came
  • 00:05:58.150 --> 00:06:01.120
  • out of Simon's arrogance.
  • 00:06:01.130 --> 00:06:03.280
  • There are what I call "regrets of arrogance and pride."
  • 00:06:03.290 --> 00:06:06.150
  • Simon assumed that he knew what Jesus was thinking,
  • 00:06:06.160 --> 00:06:08.290
  • but he had no clue.
  • 00:06:09.000 --> 00:06:10.100
  • But Jesus knew what Simon was thinking.
  • 00:06:10.110 --> 00:06:12.200
  • And in verse 44, it says: "Then he,"
  • 00:06:12.210 --> 00:06:15.150
  • Jesus, "turned toward the woman and said to Simon,
  • 00:06:15.160 --> 00:06:18.130
  • 'Do you see this woman?
  • 00:06:18.140 --> 00:06:20.030
  • I came into your house.
  • 00:06:20.040 --> 00:06:21.150
  • You did not give me any water for my feet,
  • 00:06:21.160 --> 00:06:23.120
  • but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them
  • 00:06:23.130 --> 00:06:26.000
  • with her hair.
  • 00:06:26.010 --> 00:06:27.130
  • You did not give me a kiss, but this woman,
  • 00:06:27.140 --> 00:06:29.200
  • from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.
  • 00:06:29.210 --> 00:06:32.000
  • You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume
  • 00:06:32.010 --> 00:06:35.010
  • on my feet.'"
  • 00:06:35.020 --> 00:06:37.170
  • So, Simon's ignorance came out of his arrogance,
  • 00:06:37.180 --> 00:06:41.290
  • for Simon not only judged the woman,
  • 00:06:42.000 --> 00:06:44.100
  • but he also judged Jesus.
  • 00:06:44.110 --> 00:06:46.250
  • He felt like he was better than Christ.
  • 00:06:46.260 --> 00:06:50.070
  • In that culture, if a guest came to your home,
  • 00:06:50.080 --> 00:06:53.020
  • after they'd been walking around on the dusty streets all day
  • 00:06:53.030 --> 00:06:55.240
  • in sandals, then you would wash their feet.
  • 00:06:55.250 --> 00:07:00.180
  • But if you felt like that you were higher on the social ladder
  • 00:07:00.190 --> 00:07:05.050
  • than they were, if you felt like that your influence was greater
  • 00:07:05.060 --> 00:07:10.000
  • and you were more important, then you wouldn't wash their
  • 00:07:10.010 --> 00:07:13.070
  • feet, but at least you would give them a basin of water
  • 00:07:13.080 --> 00:07:16.240
  • so they could wash their own feet.
  • 00:07:16.250 --> 00:07:18.140
  • But Simon doesn't even give Jesus a bowl of water so he can
  • 00:07:18.150 --> 00:07:20.200
  • wash his own feet, and that was considered a terrible insult.
  • 00:07:20.210 --> 00:07:25.280
  • It was saying, "I think that you are so lucky to be in my house."
  • 00:07:25.290 --> 00:07:31.140
  • You see, Simon was thinking, "Jesus, you're so lucky
  • 00:07:31.150 --> 00:07:35.100
  • that you got an invite to one of my dinner parties
  • 00:07:35.110 --> 00:07:38.030
  • that everyone wants to be invited to because
  • 00:07:38.040 --> 00:07:40.100
  • I am the most prominent leader in this community.
  • 00:07:40.110 --> 00:07:43.050
  • I do so many good things, and I am this great person.
  • 00:07:43.060 --> 00:07:49.010
  • And so, you are so blessed that I decided to invite you into
  • 00:07:49.020 --> 00:07:52.080
  • my home so that I could question you so that I could decide
  • 00:07:52.090 --> 00:07:54.230
  • what I think about you."
  • 00:07:54.240 --> 00:07:59.020
  • It was all about Simon.
  • 00:07:59.030 --> 00:08:01.180
  • You see, this gets to the core of why we carry around regrets
  • 00:08:01.190 --> 00:08:05.200
  • and shame and guilt that are unnecessary.
  • 00:08:05.210 --> 00:08:08.180
  • It's that we don't think we need
  • 00:08:08.190 --> 00:08:10.260
  • Christ's extravagant forgiveness.
  • 00:08:10.270 --> 00:08:13.250
  • We don't think we need forgiveness.
  • 00:08:13.260 --> 00:08:16.220
  • We think that we've got it all together,
  • 00:08:16.230 --> 00:08:19.130
  • and we don't see the need.
  • 00:08:19.140 --> 00:08:21.020
  • Well, Simon really didn't see how much he needed
  • 00:08:21.030 --> 00:08:23.170
  • Christ's forgiveness, but the prostitute did.
  • 00:08:23.180 --> 00:08:27.020
  • And so, these regrets came out of pride.
  • 00:08:27.030 --> 00:08:30.130
  • He was blinded, not by his ignorance,
  • 00:08:30.140 --> 00:08:32.120
  • but really he was blinded by his pride.
  • 00:08:32.130 --> 00:08:37.090
  • And you can think, you know,
  • 00:08:37.100 --> 00:08:39.040
  • "I'm okay, I'm a pretty good person.
  • 00:08:39.050 --> 00:08:41.050
  • You know, sure, I'm not perfect, but I've never killed anyone.
  • 00:08:41.060 --> 00:08:43.120
  • You know, I try to do good things."
  • 00:08:43.130 --> 00:08:45.210
  • But the Bible says, "We've all sinned."
  • 00:08:45.220 --> 00:08:48.000
  • And sin is really just choosing to do what you want
  • 00:08:48.010 --> 00:08:49.290
  • rather than what God wants.
  • 00:08:50.000 --> 00:08:52.020
  • And we said that God didn't design us for sin.
  • 00:08:52.030 --> 00:08:54.070
  • That's why sin is so destructive in our lives and relationships,
  • 00:08:54.080 --> 00:08:57.100
  • because we weren't designed for that.
  • 00:08:57.110 --> 00:09:00.070
  • And so God designed us for something so much more,
  • 00:09:00.080 --> 00:09:03.280
  • something so much more passionate.
  • 00:09:03.290 --> 00:09:07.090
  • And so, when we realize that we are sinners,
  • 00:09:07.100 --> 00:09:11.020
  • sin has to be paid for, and then we turn to him for forgiveness.

  • into the world.
  • 00:10:32.110 --> 00:10:34.110
  • Kerry: Simon didn't realize how much
  • 00:10:36.010 --> 00:10:38.190
  • he needed to be forgiven.
  • 00:10:38.200 --> 00:10:40.100
  • He had regrets of ignorance, regrets of arrogance.
  • 00:10:40.110 --> 00:10:44.100
  • But I want you to notice, regrets are removed by
  • 00:10:44.110 --> 00:10:46.190
  • extravagance, the extravagant love and forgiveness
  • 00:10:46.200 --> 00:10:50.200
  • of Jesus Christ, which creates an extravagant love
  • 00:10:50.210 --> 00:10:54.000
  • in our hearts.
  • 00:10:54.010 --> 00:10:55.250
  • It says in Luke 7:37: "When a certain immoral woman
  • 00:10:55.260 --> 00:10:58.220
  • from that city heard that he was eating there,
  • 00:10:58.230 --> 00:11:01.110
  • she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled
  • 00:11:01.120 --> 00:11:03.160
  • with expensive perfume.
  • 00:11:03.170 --> 00:11:05.120
  • Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping.
  • 00:11:05.130 --> 00:11:08.000
  • Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off
  • 00:11:08.010 --> 00:11:10.210
  • with her hair.
  • 00:11:10.220 --> 00:11:12.020
  • Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them."
  • 00:11:12.030 --> 00:11:14.130
  • She opened up a very expensive jar of perfume,
  • 00:11:14.140 --> 00:11:18.020
  • probably her most valuable possession in the world.
  • 00:11:18.030 --> 00:11:20.280
  • And as that perfume splashed on Jesus's feet,
  • 00:11:22.060 --> 00:11:25.160
  • it mixed with something even more precious,
  • 00:11:25.170 --> 00:11:29.040
  • her tears of repentance because she realized how much
  • 00:11:29.050 --> 00:11:33.160
  • she needed forgiveness.
  • 00:11:33.170 --> 00:11:36.040
  • She was accused of being wasteful.
  • 00:11:36.050 --> 00:11:38.100
  • She was accused of being extravagant.
  • 00:11:38.110 --> 00:11:41.050
  • Wasteful she was not, but she was being extravagant.
  • 00:11:41.060 --> 00:11:45.240
  • She extravagantly poured all her sins and regrets onto Christ,
  • 00:11:45.250 --> 00:11:51.060
  • and he gave her his extravagant forgiveness.
  • 00:11:51.070 --> 00:11:54.220
  • She experienced extravagant unconditional love,
  • 00:11:54.230 --> 00:11:57.270
  • extravagant peace from her past, extravagant purpose
  • 00:11:57.280 --> 00:12:01.240
  • and hope for her future.
  • 00:12:01.250 --> 00:12:04.220
  • You see, the secret to getting rid of your regrets
  • 00:12:04.230 --> 00:12:08.230
  • is extravagance, divine extravagance,
  • 00:12:08.240 --> 00:12:11.100
  • receiving Christ's extravagant, over-the-top forgiveness
  • 00:12:11.110 --> 00:12:15.180
  • and love and peace and purpose, and then living
  • 00:12:15.190 --> 00:12:19.180
  • a divinely extravagant life.
  • 00:12:19.190 --> 00:12:22.290
  • Because you can live an extravagantly selfish life,
  • 00:12:23.000 --> 00:12:26.160
  • or you can live a life of extravagant service.
  • 00:12:26.170 --> 00:12:30.250
  • You can live a life of extravagant spending,
  • 00:12:30.260 --> 00:12:33.140
  • or you can live a life of extravagant giving.
  • 00:12:33.150 --> 00:12:36.080
  • You can live a life of extravagant pleasure and lust,
  • 00:12:36.090 --> 00:12:39.050
  • or you can live a life of extravagant passion and love.
  • 00:12:39.060 --> 00:12:44.050
  • That's why divine extravagance is.
  • 00:12:44.060 --> 00:12:46.200
  • So, how do I live that way?
  • 00:12:46.210 --> 00:12:48.230
  • First, I have to fall into the fountain
  • 00:12:48.240 --> 00:12:50.120
  • of Christ's extravagant forgiveness.
  • 00:12:50.130 --> 00:12:52.250
  • That valuable bottle of perfume really was a symbol
  • 00:12:52.260 --> 00:13:00.080
  • that was powerful and painful of all this woman's regrets.
  • 00:13:00.090 --> 00:13:04.110
  • For, in that culture, an alabaster jar of perfume
  • 00:13:04.120 --> 00:13:07.240
  • was usually given by parents to a young girl,
  • 00:13:07.250 --> 00:13:10.130
  • and that young girl was to save the perfume
  • 00:13:10.140 --> 00:13:12.210
  • until she was married.
  • 00:13:12.220 --> 00:13:15.140
  • And on her wedding night, she was to pour the perfume
  • 00:13:15.150 --> 00:13:18.090
  • on her husband's feet to say, "I saved myself for you.
  • 00:13:18.100 --> 00:13:22.230
  • I'm valuable, I'm pure.
  • 00:13:22.240 --> 00:13:25.260
  • I'm your treasure given to you."
  • 00:13:25.270 --> 00:13:29.250
  • So I just imagine every time this woman saw that alabaster
  • 00:13:29.260 --> 00:13:32.080
  • jar of perfume, it reminded her of all her regrets.
  • 00:13:32.090 --> 00:13:35.190
  • It reminded her of in her deep thirst for love and acceptance,
  • 00:13:35.200 --> 00:13:42.040
  • she'd given herself away to men as an object of lust that had
  • 00:13:42.050 --> 00:13:45.250
  • just left her empty and feeling worthless and no value.
  • 00:13:45.260 --> 00:13:50.120
  • And when she took that perfume and she poured it
  • 00:13:50.130 --> 00:13:54.150
  • on Jesus's feet, she was pouring out all her regrets,
  • 00:13:54.160 --> 00:13:58.120
  • all of her failures, all of her hurts,
  • 00:13:58.130 --> 00:14:02.070
  • all of her brokenness onto Jesus Christ.
  • 00:14:02.080 --> 00:14:06.080
  • Have you ever taken all of your brokenness,
  • 00:14:06.090 --> 00:14:09.010
  • all of your hurt, all of your sins,
  • 00:14:09.020 --> 00:14:11.260
  • all of your feelings of worthlessness,
  • 00:14:11.270 --> 00:14:15.170
  • and poured it on Jesus and given it to him?
  • 00:14:15.180 --> 00:14:19.240
  • And then you fall into his fountain of extravagant
  • 00:14:19.250 --> 00:14:22.210
  • forgiveness, and you're never the same again.
  • 00:14:22.220 --> 00:14:26.150
  • Well, this woman realized how much she needed to be forgiven,
  • 00:14:26.160 --> 00:14:30.130
  • but Simon didn't realize that.
  • 00:14:30.140 --> 00:14:34.000
  • But look what Jesus said to her in Luke 7:48:
  • 00:14:34.010 --> 00:14:37.000
  • "And he said to her, 'Your sins are forgiven...
  • 00:14:37.010 --> 00:14:41.030
  • go and be at peace.'" I love that.
  • 00:14:41.040 --> 00:14:43.250
  • She pours out all her regrets on Jesus,
  • 00:14:43.260 --> 00:14:46.150
  • and he says, "Your sins are forgiven.
  • 00:14:46.160 --> 00:14:49.000
  • Go and be at peace."
  • 00:14:49.010 --> 00:14:51.060
  • And I know there's a young woman out there who feels worthless,
  • 00:14:51.070 --> 00:14:55.230
  • like you have no value because in your search for acceptance,
  • 00:14:55.240 --> 00:14:59.000
  • approval, and love, you've given yourself away to a young man
  • 00:14:59.010 --> 00:15:03.020
  • who's used you and abused you as an object of lust rather than
  • 00:15:03.030 --> 00:15:07.170
  • a priceless treasure.
  • 00:15:07.180 --> 00:15:09.230
  • And I just want you to know, Jesus says to you that,
  • 00:15:09.240 --> 00:15:13.020
  • "you are valuable, that you are a treasure.
  • 00:15:13.030 --> 00:15:16.080
  • You're beautiful, and you're sacred,
  • 00:15:16.090 --> 00:15:18.230
  • and you're worth so much that I died for you.
  • 00:15:18.240 --> 00:15:22.060
  • I think you're worth dying for."
  • 00:15:22.070 --> 00:15:24.130
  • You see, Jesus Christ says, "No matter what you've done,
  • 00:15:24.140 --> 00:15:26.240
  • no matter where you've been, I just want you to know,
  • 00:15:26.250 --> 00:15:29.190
  • you're valuable and you're beautiful.
  • 00:15:29.200 --> 00:15:32.200
  • Come to me, and I'll forgive you and cleanse you and tell you,
  • 00:15:32.210 --> 00:15:37.030
  • 'Go, and be at peace, peace from your past.'"
  • 00:15:37.040 --> 00:15:40.020
  • I know I'm speakin' to a young man
  • 00:15:40.030 --> 00:15:41.210
  • who's really searched for happiness and searched
  • 00:15:41.220 --> 00:15:46.100
  • for pleasure and intimacy through pornography,
  • 00:15:46.110 --> 00:15:50.080
  • and now you're trapped.
  • 00:15:50.090 --> 00:15:52.130
  • You're enslaved, you're addicted,
  • 00:15:52.140 --> 00:15:54.030
  • and the shame is just overwhelming.
  • 00:15:54.040 --> 00:15:57.170
  • And I just want you to know, Jesus calls out to you and says,
  • 00:15:57.180 --> 00:16:01.170
  • "You're so valuable to me.
  • 00:16:01.180 --> 00:16:03.150
  • You're so treasured. I love you so much.
  • 00:16:03.160 --> 00:16:05.130
  • Nothing you can do can make you love me any more or less.
  • 00:16:05.140 --> 00:16:08.150
  • I love you completely, and my heart breaks for you
  • 00:16:08.160 --> 00:16:10.290
  • because of the devastation of sin.
  • 00:16:11.000 --> 00:16:13.290
  • You were created for more than that.
  • 00:16:14.000 --> 00:16:16.030
  • I love you.
  • 00:16:16.040 --> 00:16:17.150
  • Nothing can change your value. Come to me.
  • 00:16:17.160 --> 00:16:20.150
  • I'll forgive you, and then I'll give you the strength
  • 00:16:20.160 --> 00:16:23.070
  • to go and be at peace.
  • 00:16:23.080 --> 00:16:24.190
  • I'll give you my victory.
  • 00:16:24.200 --> 00:16:26.090
  • Nothing you do can change your value.
  • 00:16:26.100 --> 00:16:28.200
  • Look at Luke 7:47.
  • 00:16:28.210 --> 00:16:32.150
  • Jesus said: "'This woman was forgiven many, many sins,
  • 00:16:32.160 --> 00:16:37.070
  • and so she is very, very grateful.
  • 00:16:37.080 --> 00:16:39.160
  • If the forgiveness is minimal the gratitude is minimal.'"
  • 00:16:39.170 --> 00:16:42.110
  • And of course, there was no gratitude at all from Simon,
  • 00:16:42.120 --> 00:16:44.210
  • so there was no forgiveness.
  • 00:16:44.220 --> 00:16:46.280
  • Underline the word "gratitude."
  • 00:16:46.290 --> 00:16:48.280
  • Jesus said, "Simon, the reason you haven't showed me
  • 00:16:48.290 --> 00:16:51.270
  • gratitude is because you don't think you need
  • 00:16:51.280 --> 00:16:54.070
  • my extravagant forgiveness."
  • 00:16:54.080 --> 00:16:56.030
  • See, if I begin to understand just a little bit of that
  • 00:16:56.040 --> 00:16:57.280
  • extravagant forgiveness and grace and mercy that Christ
  • 00:16:57.290 --> 00:17:00.220
  • has given me, then I'll come out of the fountain of forgiveness
  • 00:17:00.230 --> 00:17:04.250
  • with this fountain of gratitude, extravagant gratitude flowing
  • 00:17:04.260 --> 00:17:09.230
  • through me, being so grateful for what God has done for me.
  • 00:17:09.240 --> 00:17:13.170
  • Do you have an attitude of gratitude?
  • 00:17:13.180 --> 00:17:15.120
  • Or do you just focus in on the problems
  • 00:17:15.130 --> 00:17:17.170
  • and the pain in your life?
  • 00:17:17.180 --> 00:17:19.140
  • Too many times, we just focus in on these things in our lives
  • 00:17:19.150 --> 00:17:24.030
  • that are painful or these things that are going wrong
  • 00:17:24.040 --> 00:17:26.250
  • in our lives.
  • 00:17:26.260 --> 00:17:28.060
  • The other night, Chris and I were talking.
  • 00:17:28.070 --> 00:17:29.210
  • We were talking about a problem, and talking about it,
  • 00:17:29.220 --> 00:17:32.120
  • and then Chris said, "You know, we never really think about,
  • 00:17:32.130 --> 00:17:37.080
  • because we don't know, all the times that God's saved us
  • 00:17:37.090 --> 00:17:40.220
  • from a problem, or saved us from pain."
  • 00:17:40.230 --> 00:17:44.210
  • We don't know all of the blessings that,
  • 00:17:44.220 --> 00:17:47.150
  • you know, God has given us by saving us from things that would
  • 00:17:47.160 --> 00:17:52.060
  • have been hurtful, painful, and awful until we get to heaven.
  • 00:17:52.070 --> 00:17:56.150
  • You know, so we're not grateful.
  • 00:17:56.160 --> 00:17:57.280
  • Have you ever thanked God for all the things he saved you
  • 00:17:57.290 --> 00:17:59.280
  • from that you don't even know about?
  • 00:17:59.290 --> 00:18:01.130
  • I mean, sometimes you're drivin' down the street,
  • 00:18:01.140 --> 00:18:02.290
  • and who knows how many times he and his angels have saved you
  • 00:18:03.000 --> 00:18:05.000
  • from an accident, how many things that God has stopped
  • 00:18:05.010 --> 00:18:07.070
  • that Satan's tried to bring into your life that God has stopped?
  • 00:18:07.080 --> 00:18:11.190
  • We'll never know till we get to heaven.
  • 00:18:11.200 --> 00:18:14.260
  • But when I have an attitude of grumbling, complaining,
  • 00:18:14.270 --> 00:18:17.050
  • and focusing on only the negative, it shows that
  • 00:18:17.060 --> 00:18:19.210
  • I've just forgotten how much Christ has forgiven me.
  • 00:18:19.220 --> 00:18:24.000
  • Because when I remember that, then I live in an attitude
  • 00:18:24.010 --> 00:18:26.110
  • of gratitude, and I think of how much I depend upon him.
  • 00:18:26.120 --> 00:18:30.020
  • And some of you are thinkin', "Well, I'm a self-made man.
  • 00:18:30.030 --> 00:18:32.110
  • I'm a self-made woman.
  • 00:18:32.120 --> 00:18:33.290
  • You know, I mean, I don't really need God that much."
  • 00:18:34.000 --> 00:18:37.150
  • You need God for your very next heartbeat.
  • 00:18:37.160 --> 00:18:40.290
  • You need God for your next breath.
  • 00:18:41.000 --> 00:18:43.030
  • God's the one who gave you the ability to earn wealth.
  • 00:18:43.040 --> 00:18:46.010
  • God's the one who gave you the health that you have.
  • 00:18:46.020 --> 00:18:48.210
  • We need God desperately.
  • 00:18:48.220 --> 00:18:52.090
  • We don't realize how much we need him for everything.
  • 00:18:52.100 --> 00:18:58.010
  • And when we realize that, then we breathe in his gratitude
  • 00:18:58.020 --> 00:19:00.180
  • and breathe out his gratitude.
  • 00:19:00.190 --> 00:19:02.220
  • We live in gratitude.
  • 00:19:02.230 --> 00:19:04.020
  • We have an attitude of gratitude.
  • 00:19:04.030 --> 00:19:05.290
  • And so, am I grateful for what God has given me?
  • 00:19:06.000 --> 00:19:10.150
  • We focus on what we don't have rather than what we do have,
  • 00:19:10.160 --> 00:19:13.240
  • which is so much.
  • 00:19:13.250 --> 00:19:15.280
  • When we have an attitude of gratitude,
  • 00:19:15.290 --> 00:19:17.140
  • it shows that we've remembered how much we've been forgiven.
  • 00:19:17.150 --> 00:19:20.090
  • And so, when I live in gratitude,
  • 00:19:20.100 --> 00:19:23.120
  • my heart is tender towards God.
  • 00:19:23.130 --> 00:19:25.200
  • In Ezekiel 36, it says:
  • 00:19:25.210 --> 00:19:27.130
  • "'And I will give you a new heart,
  • 00:19:27.140 --> 00:19:29.020
  • and I will put a new spirit in you.
  • 00:19:29.030 --> 00:19:30.120
  • I will take your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender,
  • 00:19:30.130 --> 00:19:33.070
  • responsive heart.'"
  • 00:19:33.080 --> 00:19:34.170
  • So if you're a Christ follower, you have a tender,
  • 00:19:34.180 --> 00:19:35.270
  • responsive heart.
  • 00:19:35.280 --> 00:19:37.100
  • That's who you really are.
  • 00:19:37.110 --> 00:19:39.070
  • God has given you a new, tender heart to him.
  • 00:19:39.080 --> 00:19:42.160
  • And so, tune in to that.
  • 00:19:42.170 --> 00:19:45.230
  • Ask the Lord to just plow up the stony ground that's
  • 00:19:45.240 --> 00:19:50.120
  • in your heart and make it a place where
  • 00:19:50.130 --> 00:19:53.140
  • God can take root in a powerful way.
  • 00:19:53.150 --> 00:19:56.190
  • But then I want you to see a third thing.
  • 00:19:56.200 --> 00:19:58.000
  • You fall into the fountain of forgiveness,
  • 00:19:58.010 --> 00:20:00.050
  • his extravagant forgiveness.
  • 00:20:00.060 --> 00:20:01.150
  • You come out of the fountain with extravagant gratitude.
  • 00:20:01.160 --> 00:20:03.200
  • And then you pour out your life in extravagant giving.
  • 00:20:03.210 --> 00:20:07.050
  • In Luke 7:37, it says: "She brought a beautiful
  • 00:20:07.060 --> 00:20:09.140
  • alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume."
  • 00:20:09.150 --> 00:20:12.150
  • So, she gave Christ her most valuable gift.
  • 00:20:12.160 --> 00:20:16.110
  • To her, that was nothing compared to the gift
  • 00:20:16.120 --> 00:20:19.120
  • he gave her of forgiveness and purpose and peace.
  • 00:20:19.130 --> 00:20:24.250
  • So, if you have trouble giving, it's just that you haven't
  • 00:20:24.260 --> 00:20:27.110
  • realized how much God has given you.
  • 00:20:27.120 --> 00:20:29.150
  • Everything we give to God is just somethin'
  • 00:20:29.160 --> 00:20:31.150
  • he's already given us.
  • 00:20:31.160 --> 00:20:33.200
  • In Luke 6:38, it says: "'Give, and it will be given unto you.
  • 00:20:33.210 --> 00:20:36.200
  • A good measure, pressed down, shaken together
  • 00:20:36.210 --> 00:20:38.210
  • and running over, will be poured into your lap.
  • 00:20:38.220 --> 00:20:41.000
  • For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.'"
  • 00:20:41.010 --> 00:20:44.050
  • He's sayin', "As you pour out your life, I fill you up."
  • 00:20:44.060 --> 00:20:48.100
  • The reason why so many people are empty today,
  • 00:20:48.110 --> 00:20:50.020
  • because they're always tryin' to fill their life up.
  • 00:20:50.030 --> 00:20:52.100
  • They fill their life up, and they're always goin'
  • 00:20:52.110 --> 00:20:54.080
  • to these mud puddles, you know, to fill their life up,
  • 00:20:54.090 --> 00:20:57.040
  • or good things to fill their life up.
  • 00:20:57.050 --> 00:20:59.200
  • They're always tryin' to fill their life up,
  • 00:20:59.210 --> 00:21:01.090
  • and they feel so empty.
  • 00:21:01.100 --> 00:21:02.260
  • But when you pour your life out, that's when God fills you up
  • 00:21:02.270 --> 00:21:05.200
  • with the things that are most important.
  • 00:21:05.210 --> 00:21:07.260
  • Whenever you pour out, God will fill you up.
  • 00:21:07.270 --> 00:21:10.200
  • Whatever you pour out of your life,
  • 00:21:10.210 --> 00:21:12.050
  • God will bring back in to your life in abundance,
  • 00:21:12.060 --> 00:21:14.230
  • and you pour out and you pour out.
  • 00:21:14.240 --> 00:21:17.020
  • It all comes down to divine extravagance.
  • 00:21:17.030 --> 00:21:22.030
  • Living a life of divine extravagance is so important.
  • 00:21:22.040 --> 00:21:25.260
  • Divine extravagance is just that you pour out yourself,
  • 00:21:25.270 --> 00:21:31.020
  • your time, talent, and treasure for the glory of God.
  • 00:21:31.030 --> 00:21:34.110
  • You pour out all the love that you have on Christ
  • 00:21:34.120 --> 00:21:37.260
  • and others so that when you come to the end of your life,
  • 00:21:37.270 --> 00:21:40.040
  • you've got nothin' left to pour out because
  • 00:21:40.050 --> 00:21:42.080
  • you're all poured out.
  • 00:21:42.090 --> 00:21:44.170
  • If you're not all poured out, you're gonna have regrets.
  • 00:21:44.180 --> 00:21:48.140
  • It's like, "Man, I had so much more to give.
  • 00:21:48.150 --> 00:21:50.060
  • I had so much more."
  • 00:21:50.070 --> 00:21:52.130
  • That's what regrets are, is not being all poured out.
  • 00:21:52.140 --> 00:21:54.270
  • And the amazing thing is, in this life,
  • 00:21:54.280 --> 00:21:56.110
  • when you pour yourself out, God fills you up with peace
  • 00:21:56.120 --> 00:21:58.290
  • and provision and purpose, and all the emptiness goes away.
  • 00:21:59.000 --> 00:22:04.250
  • But it really all comes down to extravagant surrender.
  • 00:22:04.260 --> 00:22:07.230
  • You know, I said, "Freedom is not just doin'
  • 00:22:07.240 --> 00:22:11.000
  • what you wanna do.
  • 00:22:11.010 --> 00:22:12.100
  • Freedom is surrendering to what God wants you to do."
  • 00:22:12.110 --> 00:22:15.130
  • Then you find his freedom, freedom from sin,
  • 00:22:15.140 --> 00:22:18.240
  • freedom from a purposeless life, freedom to step into your future
  • 00:22:18.250 --> 00:22:22.240
  • boldly, freedom from your past.
  • 00:22:22.250 --> 00:22:26.040
  • That's what freedom's all about is surrender,
  • 00:22:26.050 --> 00:22:28.040
  • so I have to surrender to him 'cause you're gonna surrender
  • 00:22:28.050 --> 00:22:29.270
  • to something.
  • 00:22:29.280 --> 00:22:31.180
  • When you surrender your life to Christ, he sets you free.
  • 00:22:31.190 --> 00:22:33.190
  • Everything else you'd surrender your life to takes over
  • 00:22:33.200 --> 00:22:35.280
  • your life.
  • 00:22:35.290 --> 00:22:38.090
  • It takes you captive.
  • 00:22:38.100 --> 00:22:40.260
  • But when you surrender to Christ, he sets you free.
  • 00:22:40.270 --> 00:22:42.220
  • 00:22:43.050 --> 00:22:51.200
  • announcer: Here at Kerry Shook Ministries,

  • 00:23:29.210 --> 00:23:39.200
  • 00:23:39.210 --> 00:23:48.110
  • I was an orphan until you called me home
  • 00:23:48.120 --> 00:23:52.200
  • I was ignoring the way
  • 00:23:52.210 --> 00:23:55.020
  • that you said you loved me so
  • 00:23:55.030 --> 00:23:57.120
  • I was livin' in the darkness, darkness
  • 00:23:57.130 --> 00:23:59.270
  • I was all alone till you saved my life
  • 00:23:59.280 --> 00:24:06.090
  • Now I can't shout loud enough
  • 00:24:06.100 --> 00:24:08.110
  • No, I can't shout loud enough
  • 00:24:08.120 --> 00:24:10.290
  • And I can't drum hard enough
  • 00:24:11.000 --> 00:24:13.040
  • No, I can't drum hard enough
  • 00:24:13.050 --> 00:24:15.100
  • It will never be enough
  • 00:24:15.110 --> 00:24:17.220
  • It will never be enough to worship you
  • 00:24:17.230 --> 00:24:21.220
  • my God, the way my heart wants to
  • 00:24:21.230 --> 00:24:25.200
  • 00:24:25.210 --> 00:24:34.050
  • I was an orphan until you called me home
  • 00:24:34.060 --> 00:24:38.270
  • I was ignoring the way that you said
  • 00:24:38.280 --> 00:24:41.290
  • you loved me so
  • 00:24:42.000 --> 00:24:43.190
  • I was livin' in the darkness, darkness
  • 00:24:43.200 --> 00:24:46.030
  • I was all alone till you saved my life
  • 00:24:46.040 --> 00:24:52.110
  • And I can't shout loud enough
  • 00:24:52.120 --> 00:24:54.220
  • No, I can't shout loud enough
  • 00:24:54.230 --> 00:24:57.010
  • And I can't drum hard enough
  • 00:24:57.020 --> 00:24:59.030
  • No, I can't drum hard enough
  • 00:24:59.040 --> 00:25:01.160
  • It'll never be enough
  • 00:25:01.170 --> 00:25:03.250
  • It'll never be enough to worship you, my God
  • 00:25:03.260 --> 00:25:09.100
  • the way my heart wants to
  • 00:25:09.110 --> 00:25:14.100
  • 'Cause all I want is you, the one that I run to
  • 00:25:14.110 --> 00:25:22.260
  • And all I want is you, oh, yeah
  • 00:25:22.270 --> 00:25:29.250
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:25:29.260 --> 00:25:34.010
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:25:34.060 --> 00:25:38.110
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:25:38.160 --> 00:25:42.010
  • You're all I need, you're everything, yeah
  • 00:25:43.160 --> 00:25:48.020
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:25:48.030 --> 00:25:51.080
  • female: Come on.
  • 00:25:51.150 --> 00:25:52.250
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:25:52.260 --> 00:25:56.110
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:25:57.060 --> 00:26:00.290
  • female: Yeah.
  • 00:26:01.000 --> 00:26:02.090
  • You're everything I need
  • 00:26:02.100 --> 00:26:04.100
  • Yeah, all I want is you
  • 00:26:04.180 --> 00:26:09.040
  • And all I want is you, the one that I run to
  • 00:26:09.050 --> 00:26:16.040
  • And all I want is you, oh, yeah
  • 00:26:18.030 --> 00:26:25.050
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:26:25.060 --> 00:26:28.110
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:26:29.200 --> 00:26:33.050
  • oh, yeah
  • 00:26:33.060 --> 00:26:34.150
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:26:34.160 --> 00:26:37.160
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:26:38.210 --> 00:26:42.210
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:26:43.140 --> 00:26:46.240
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:26:48.000 --> 00:26:51.100
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:26:52.150 --> 00:26:55.250
  • You're all I need, you're everything
  • 00:26:57.050 --> 00:27:01.020
  • 00:27:01.210 --> 00:27:11.210
  • 00:27:13.110 --> 00:27:23.100
  • 00:27:23.110 --> 00:27:28.110
