  • Here's the thing I get scared when there's something new, I like it how it
  • 00:00:48.140 --> 00:00:51.120
  • once was, I like the people who were once in my life, but God says on the

  • other side of this is more freedom for you, not less.
  • 00:00:54.220 --> 00:00:58.140
  • Cause if I've called you to it, I'm gonna be faithful to it. And I just came to
  • 00:00:58.160 --> 00:01:02.120
  • church to encourage somebody who's in a new season, and it seems scary
  • 00:01:02.140 --> 00:01:06.100
  • and you wish it was like it used to be. God's got something for you, just trust
  • 00:01:06.120 --> 00:01:10.230
  • Him as you go through this open door that He's opened up for you. He' s
  • 00:01:10.250 --> 00:01:14.030
  • gonna be faithful on the other side. There's gonna come a day when you
  • 00:01:14.050 --> 00:01:17.150
  • believe you ever didn't like it, that you ever didn't have it this way. I just
  • 00:01:17.170 --> 00:01:22.020
  • speak new life into new seasons.
  • 00:01:22.040 --> 00:01:25.010
  • Hey this is Levi and I wanna thank you so much for watching Fresh Life TV.
  • 00:01:25.030 --> 00:01:30.080
  • It is such an incredible privilege to get to bring God's word into your life, and
  • 00:01:30.100 --> 00:01:35.020
  • that's exactly what we're about to do.
  • 00:01:35.040 --> 00:01:36.250
  • We're gonna have our attention turned to the Gospel of John, where we're
  • 00:01:36.270 --> 00:01:41.010
  • going to be looking at the seven different times that Jesus disclosed His
  • 00:01:41.030 --> 00:01:45.040
  • identity using the words, I Am, and then telling us who He is.
  • 00:01:45.060 --> 00:01:49.240
  • We'll be going from the bread of life, to the true vine, to the door of the
  • 00:01:49.260 --> 00:01:55.160
  • sheep and the good shepherd, to the resurrection and the life.
  • 00:01:55.180 --> 00:01:59.200
  • Come one, it's going to be an incredible ride.
  • 00:01:59.220 --> 00:02:03.110
  • And I also love that He chose seven different times to tell us who He is.
  • 00:02:03.130 --> 00:02:07.100
  • Cause if you know anything about scripture you'll know the number seven is
  • 00:02:07.120 --> 00:02:10.190
  • kind of like one of God's favorite Easter eggs.
  • 00:02:10.210 --> 00:02:12.230
  • He loves to hide in and pepper in, not only into the scripture but really into
  • 00:02:12.250 --> 00:02:17.010
  • all of creation this number seven.
  • 00:02:17.030 --> 00:02:19.090
  • That really speaks of completion or fullness. It's in the calendar,seven days
  • 00:02:19.110 --> 00:02:24.160
  • in the week.
  • 00:02:24.180 --> 00:02:26.090
  • It's in the rainbow, seven colors. It's in the musical scale, it's even in the
  • 00:02:26.110 --> 00:02:30.060
  • amount of Harry Potter books there are.
  • 00:02:30.080 --> 00:02:31.290
  • Now I'm not sure that God had anything to do with that but it is an incredible
  • 00:02:32.010 --> 00:02:35.180
  • thing because in the seven statements of Jesus,this magnificent seven,
  • 00:02:35.200 --> 00:02:41.060
  • we're going to get a totality a full picture of the rainbow of who He is and
  • 00:02:41.080 --> 00:02:46.200
  • how He wanted to reveal Himself to us.
  • 00:02:46.220 --> 00:02:48.230
  • And through that our lives can be changed in the process.
  • 00:02:48.250 --> 00:02:52.010
  • If in anyway you're encouraged by this message or blessed, we sure would
  • 00:02:52.030 --> 00:02:55.270
  • love to hear about it.
  • 00:02:55.290 --> 00:02:57.160
  • Shoot me an email, Levi@freshlife.church and I would love to hear what
  • 00:02:57.180 --> 00:03:01.190
  • God is doing in your life.
  • 00:03:01.210 --> 00:03:03.090
  • And as well if you wanna support this ministry financially and help us to
  • 00:03:03.110 --> 00:03:07.100
  • bring God's word to more people, we would be thrilled to partner with you in that way.

  • 00:03:11.280 --> 00:03:15.130
  • Well let's jump into today's message.
  • 00:03:15.150 --> 00:03:18.190
  • We were in Florida recently and we had the great honor of going to
  • 00:03:19.270 --> 00:03:24.080
  • Parkland. And we were able to bring copies of my book, Through the Eyes
  • 00:03:24.100 --> 00:03:28.040
  • of a Lion, about finding power in your pain, and give them to a pastor who
  • 00:03:28.060 --> 00:03:33.150
  • pastors in Parkland, an lives in Parkland. And had three of the funerals of
  • 00:03:33.170 --> 00:03:36.230
  • those kids who were shot in the most deadly school shooting in our history.
  • 00:03:36.250 --> 00:03:39.280
  • He had those in his church-- had the viewing for the heroic coach, who laid
  • 00:03:40.000 --> 00:03:43.150
  • down his life in front of students. They had the viewing in their church.
  • 00:03:43.170 --> 00:03:47.120
  • And we went and spent time with them while they were still having candles
  • 00:03:47.140 --> 00:03:49.260
  • on the stage and students from the school lighting them. And just
  • 00:03:49.280 --> 00:03:52.010
  • incredible that God sent us to be there with them for a different speaking
  • 00:03:52.030 --> 00:03:55.170
  • engagement, while all that was happening. And I just love that there's no
  • 00:03:55.190 --> 00:03:58.260
  • accident. It was an open door of opportunity for us to speak love and to
  • 00:03:58.280 --> 00:04:03.260
  • speak light into that situation.
  • 00:04:03.280 --> 00:04:05.140
  • And while we were there--because we were staying in Miami,but we had
  • 00:04:05.160 --> 00:04:08.230
  • to drive, of course, north to get there, to the Fort Lauderdale area, where
  • 00:04:08.250 --> 00:04:12.120
  • this all took place. But to get there we had to go through demonic levels of
  • 00:04:12.140 --> 00:04:16.230
  • Satanic traffic. And yes, I used those words intentionally. Because that's
  • 00:04:16.250 --> 00:04:20.140
  • exactly how I felt. I mean what is this. At four o'clock on a Sunday, what in
  • 00:04:20.160 --> 00:04:24.120
  • the world is going on. There's no reason for this. It was like we would sit
  • 00:04:24.140 --> 00:04:27.260
  • there and it was terrible.And I was frustrated and we were going to be late.
  • 00:04:27.280 --> 00:04:31.230
  • And what made me so mad about it wasn't the traffic. It was that on the
  • 00:04:31.250 --> 00:04:35.250
  • freeway I could see a lane that I could technically be in, the HOV lane-- the
  • 00:04:35.270 --> 00:04:40.270
  • high occupancy vehicle lane. I don't go anywhere without high occupancy
  • 00:04:40.290 --> 00:04:46.010
  • in my vehicles. I roll with a crew. Me and Lennox we are minorities in a
  • 00:04:46.030 --> 00:04:50.070
  • sorority. So we are always-- our suburban was heavy laden with females.
  • 00:04:50.090 --> 00:04:53.290
  • And so there was plenty of us so we could be in that lane. But I couldn't
  • 00:04:54.010 --> 00:04:58.020
  • get into it because they only have so many places where there is a place
  • 00:04:58.040 --> 00:05:01.240
  • of entry. And that's how they keep that HOV lane moving so quickly. And
  • 00:05:01.260 --> 00:05:06.200
  • so we must have gone on-- I'm not exaggerating. We must have gone for
  • 00:05:06.220 --> 00:05:09.140
  • six, seven, maybe eight miles of bumper to bumper traffic. And meanwhile,
  • 00:05:09.160 --> 00:05:13.130
  • you're like, why don't you just go over the double yellow. I would have
  • 00:05:13.150 --> 00:05:16.070
  • done that in a heartbeat and paid the ticket gladly if I got pulled over.
  • 00:05:16.090 --> 00:05:19.160
  • They had put up these stupid little barricade things every two feet. There is
  • 00:05:19.180 --> 00:05:24.070
  • no physical way to get over. I contemplated going over. I'm like, what's the
  • 00:05:24.090 --> 00:05:27.130
  • waiver that Hertz charges these days? I was this close. Because
  • 00:05:27.150 --> 00:05:31.040
  • obviously, there it is empty. There's not one car in that lane for all these
  • 00:05:31.060 --> 00:05:35.080
  • miles. I would have been fine. You know how good it felt when finally there
  • 00:05:35.100 --> 00:05:39.290
  • was an opening and I was able to get into this thing that I've been seeing
  • 00:05:40.010 --> 00:05:43.000
  • for a long time? It felt so good.
  • 00:05:43.020 --> 00:05:45.010
  • And guess what? That's the entire Old Testament in a nutshell. People
  • 00:05:45.030 --> 00:05:51.040
  • hearing about, reading about, and being told about how great it's going to
  • 00:05:51.060 --> 00:05:55.000
  • be when the Messiah gets here. How awesome it's going to be to have the
  • 00:05:55.020 --> 00:05:57.280
  • light of the world. How great it's going to be when Shiloh comes, when
  • 00:05:58.000 --> 00:06:00.260
  • God's peace comes. How great it's going to be when someone comes
  • 00:06:00.280 --> 00:06:03.290
  • down from heaven to get us from Earth back to heaven. How wonderful it's going to be.
  • 00:06:04.010 --> 00:06:07.150
  • But for all of the prophets who prophesied-- for all that Moses had to say,
  • 00:06:07.170 --> 00:06:11.040
  • Abraham had to say, David had to say, Isaiah had to say, Malachi had to
  • 00:06:11.060 --> 00:06:14.170
  • say, Ezekiel had to say-- and for 400 silent years after the Old Testament
  • 00:06:14.190 --> 00:06:19.070
  • ended, they just went along in bumper to bumper traffic of death, and sin,
  • 00:06:19.090 --> 00:06:23.190
  • and loneliness, and emptiness. And it seemed like heaven forgot about
  • 00:06:23.210 --> 00:06:26.230
  • them. And it seemed like God wasn't there for them.
  • 00:06:26.250 --> 00:06:29.060
  • And all of a sudden comes Jesus, who says, I am the door. You want to
  • 00:06:29.080 --> 00:06:33.140
  • get into the lane, come through Me. I'm your passage way to the other
  • 00:06:33.160 --> 00:06:38.160
  • side. I'm your point of entry to everlasting life and abundance. Every
  • 00:06:38.180 --> 00:06:44.090
  • promise of God, in Him, is yes. And in Him-- Amen. I wonder if you're
  • 00:06:44.110 --> 00:06:49.070
  • thankful that God gave you Jesus Christ, His son, to get you to the other side.
  • 00:06:49.090 --> 00:06:56.060
  • And we could spend a long time. But I want to just show you four things
  • 00:06:56.080 --> 00:07:02.000
  • from these verses that are straight there in the text that are aspects to the
  • 00:07:02.020 --> 00:07:07.110
  • treasurer waiting for you when you follow God's command and say, open
  • 00:07:07.130 --> 00:07:11.010
  • sesame, Jesus, to the door, entering in through Jesus.
  • 00:07:11.030 --> 00:07:14.120
  • Number one, protection. There's protection waiting for you on the other
  • 00:07:14.140 --> 00:07:18.100
  • side when you're in Christ. Where do you see that in the text? Jesus said,
  • 00:07:18.120 --> 00:07:21.270
  • "If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved." Whereas another translation
  • 00:07:21.290 --> 00:07:29.060
  • puts it, "He'll be safe and sound." There's safety, there's protection, in
  • 00:07:29.080 --> 00:07:36.090
  • Christ. And that's so necessary Why? Because we're in grave danger.
  • 00:07:36.110 --> 00:07:40.030
  • Alone, on our own,we can never get back to God. Why? Because of
  • 00:07:40.050 --> 00:07:45.030
  • something called sin. All of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of
  • 00:07:45.050 --> 00:07:49.290
  • God. I'm a sinner and you're a sinner, are according to scripture. All of us
  • 00:07:50.010 --> 00:07:53.280
  • have done things we shouldn't have done. We've said things we shouldn't have said.
  • 00:07:54.000 --> 00:07:57.210
  • The problem is, the wages of sin is death. God didn't send Jesus to make
  • 00:07:57.230 --> 00:08:03.230
  • bad people good. He sent Jesus so that dead people could live. That's the
  • 00:08:03.250 --> 00:08:08.280
  • gospel-- that we, dead in our sins, could find brand new life.
  • 00:08:09.000 --> 00:08:11.250
  • There's a protection, in Christ, of brand new life that we experience when
  • 00:08:11.270 --> 00:08:16.090
  • we come to Him. We find protection that saves us from our sin. Why?
  • 00:08:16.110 --> 00:08:20.090
  • Because it coats us in the righteousness of Jesus.
  • 00:08:20.110 --> 00:08:23.060
  • That is not based on you. It gets placed on you, the moment you believe it.
  • 00:08:23.080 --> 00:08:28.180
  • You don't earn it by following the 10 commandments. You don't earn it by
  • 00:08:28.200 --> 00:08:32.200
  • not smoking, or chewing, or going with those who do. You earn it by
  • 00:08:32.220 --> 00:08:36.210
  • believing in Jesus. And he puts the righteousness of God on you.
  • 00:08:36.230 --> 00:08:39.180
  • And so when God looks at you, whether you had your quiet time and read
  • 00:08:39.200 --> 00:08:42.200
  • your Bible that day or you didn't, He looks at you and all He sees is Jesus
  • 00:08:42.220 --> 00:08:47.240
  • Christ. Because you're protected from your sin by Jesus.
  • 00:08:47.260 --> 00:08:52.200
  • That, of course, is the ultimate sense in which this is true. If we enter
  • 00:08:52.220 --> 00:08:59.000
  • through Him, we'll be saved. But there's much more to it than that. You see,
  • 00:08:59.020 --> 00:09:03.070
  • being a Christian is so much more than just waiting to die and not going to hell.
  • 00:09:03.090 --> 00:09:08.240
  • I'm so sad for those who reduce their faith in Christ to little more than
  • 00:09:08.260 --> 00:09:13.080
  • catastrophic insurance for the worst case scenario. There's so much to
  • 00:09:13.100 --> 00:09:16.230
  • experience. And that protection extends to every aspect of attack, trial, and
  • 00:09:16.250 --> 00:09:22.090
  • temptation you will ever go through on this earth.
  • 00:09:22.110 --> 00:09:24.200
  • We go through so many different things that are hard in this life. And guess
  • 00:09:24.220 --> 00:09:28.080
  • what? I got news for you. The more doors that you walk through, the more
  • 00:09:28.100 --> 00:09:32.150
  • things the enemy will throw at you. The more you go through, the more
  • 00:09:32.170 --> 00:09:36.220
  • that will come at you. As the old country preacher used to put, it new
  • 00:09:36.240 --> 00:09:39.210
  • levels, new devils.
  • 00:09:39.230 --> 00:09:41.190
  • I'm telling you, the reward for Jesus opening a door-- OK, I'm going to step
  • 00:09:41.210 --> 00:09:44.160
  • out in faith and I'm going to join an impact team. I'm going to step through
  • 00:09:44.180 --> 00:09:47.190
  • the open door and begin the journey of generosity through giving. I'm
  • 00:09:47.210 --> 00:09:50.230
  • going to step out and get into a small group, or host a small group in my
  • 00:09:50.250 --> 00:09:53.170
  • home. Or when the campus pastor says, hey could you come to this
  • 00:09:53.190 --> 00:09:56.080
  • worship experience and not that one because we need more people in this
  • 00:09:56.100 --> 00:09:59.060
  • one and less in that one. Or we need people to serve here. And stepping
  • 00:09:59.080 --> 00:10:01.290
  • out in faith and doing it. Stepping out in faith and sharing the love of Jesus
  • 00:10:02.010 --> 00:10:05.190
  • with someone in your life.Or showing love to someone who's unlovable.
  • 00:10:05.210 --> 00:10:08.100
  • The reward for that is not a pat on the back. It's often more arrows of attack.
  • 00:10:08.120 --> 00:10:12.190
  • But the good news is the protection we have by entering in through
  • 00:10:12.210 --> 00:10:16.160
  • Jesus, does not just extend to salvation from sin. It's also a defense
  • 00:10:16.180 --> 00:10:21.230
  • against any scheme of the darkness, against any form of attack, against
  • 00:10:21.250 --> 00:10:25.060
  • any weapon that comes. You can, the Bible says, run to Jesus when you're
  • 00:10:25.080 --> 00:10:29.040
  • attacked and be saved. Because the name of the Lord is a strong tower.
  • 00:10:29.060 --> 00:10:33.130
  • And those who run to Him will be saved.
  • 00:10:33.150 --> 00:10:35.250
  • Check it out.It works like this. You're dealing with something hard. You're
  • 00:10:35.270 --> 00:10:38.080
  • bombarded by negative thoughts. You're being tempted. There's a great
  • 00:10:38.100 --> 00:10:41.000
  • trial. Someone's slandering you. You're being criticized. There's a front
  • 00:10:41.020 --> 00:10:43.250
  • page story in the newspaper 70 times about whatever. OK, great-- name of
  • 00:10:43.270 --> 00:10:48.060
  • Jesus-- run to Him. Guess what, somebody. When a door gets closed it
  • 00:10:48.080 --> 00:10:52.050
  • becomes a wall. And there's safety behind the wall. There's protection
  • 00:10:52.070 --> 00:10:55.280
  • behind a wall. He has your back when you're standing behind that wall.
  • 00:10:56.000 --> 00:11:00.200
  • There's protection.
  • 00:11:00.220 --> 00:11:03.150
  • And I just want this so bad for you. Every day, as simple as bowing your
  • 00:11:03.170 --> 00:11:07.010
  • knees. I heard Denzel Washington once say, put your slippers far under
  • 00:11:07.030 --> 00:11:10.010
  • your bed so the first thing you have to do in the morning is get down on
  • 00:11:10.030 --> 00:11:12.110
  • your knees, and while you're down there say a prayer. And while you're
  • 00:11:12.130 --> 00:11:15.070
  • down there, thank God for something.
  • 00:11:15.090 --> 00:11:17.040
  • So you know, last night I did I stuck my slippers really far under my bed.
  • 00:11:17.060 --> 00:11:20.090
  • And this morning, I got down on my knees at my bed. The first thing I did
  • 00:11:20.110 --> 00:11:23.140
  • today, I got on my knees and thanked God for His grace. I thanked God for
  • 00:11:23.160 --> 00:11:26.050
  • my family. I thanked God for you. I thanked God I would get to preach the
  • 00:11:26.070 --> 00:11:29.000
  • gospel of Jesus Christ today. I thanked God for air that fills my lungs.
  • 00:11:29.020 --> 00:11:32.150
  • And you know what? When I rose up, I was a different version of myself.
  • 00:11:32.170 --> 00:11:35.110
  • Why? Because I had put on the armor plating on my soul I needed to
  • 00:11:35.130 --> 00:11:39.050
  • withstand the rigors, difficulties, temptations, and trials of living in this
  • 00:11:39.070 --> 00:11:43.070
  • world that can be difficult at times, that can feel alone at times. And we
  • 00:11:43.090 --> 00:11:47.060
  • have protection in Christ. I would preach a lot longer about that but I've got
  • 00:11:47.080 --> 00:11:51.000
  • a rush on, because there's so much more.
  • 00:11:51.020 --> 00:11:53.290
  • Number two-- provision. We find provision for every need. Did not Jesus
  • 00:11:54.010 --> 00:12:01.220
  • say in the text, when you enter through Him you will find pasture? Or as
  • 00:12:01.240 --> 00:12:07.240
  • the NIRV puts it, you'll just find plenty of food.I love that. When we come
  • 00:12:07.260 --> 00:12:13.190
  • to Jesus, we find what we need. How does that work? Because it's amazing.
  • 00:12:13.210 --> 00:12:17.150
  • He is still the third installment of our series, while He's the first. We're on
  • 00:12:17.170 --> 00:12:25.270
  • week three. He's still on week one. You mean to tell me if someone's
  • 00:12:25.290 --> 00:12:29.280
  • watching the podcast on week one they still are finding out that those
  • 00:12:30.000 --> 00:12:32.170
  • things are still true? So we're like OK. We're focused this week on He's the
  • 00:12:32.190 --> 00:12:37.210
  • door, He's the door, He's the door.
  • 00:12:37.230 --> 00:12:39.280
  • But we get through the door and there's a table set with food. And we're
  • 00:12:40.000 --> 00:12:43.210
  • like, wait who did this? And He goes, I'm still the bread. And you go, I
  • 00:12:43.230 --> 00:12:46.290
  • thought You were the door? And He's like, yup, still the door. And you're
  • 00:12:47.010 --> 00:12:50.160
  • like, how do I see all this? Because, He goes, I'm still the light. And you're
  • 00:12:50.180 --> 00:12:53.180
  • like, I thought you were-- He goes, I am. But I thought you were-- He goes,
  • 00:12:53.200 --> 00:12:56.260
  • I am. I thought you were-- I am. I thought you were-- we thought this was
  • 00:12:56.280 --> 00:13:01.270
  • true about God. He goes, that's still true, because I am who I am.
  • 00:13:01.290 --> 00:13:08.120
  • And so we find provision He is what we need in the moment we need it.
  • 00:13:08.140 --> 00:13:14.170
  • When we don't need something from God, remember, more than we just
  • 00:13:14.190 --> 00:13:17.230
  • need God. Never mistake the blessings of God with the source of the
  • 00:13:17.250 --> 00:13:22.180
  • blessings-- with the God who gives and at times takes away. And so He is
  • 00:13:22.200 --> 00:13:27.220
  • our provision and when we have Him we have everything we need.
  • 00:13:27.240 --> 00:13:31.050
  • And then, whether it's a time of abundance, or a time of lack that He allows
  • 00:13:31.070 --> 00:13:35.120
  • us to go through to point us to a greater source of abundance. Whether it's
  • 00:13:35.140 --> 00:13:38.220
  • a time of greatness, and we're were being used to that we can bless other
  • 00:13:38.240 --> 00:13:43.130
  • people. Or is a time of difficulty-- a time of training, a time of refining-- like
  • 00:13:43.150 --> 00:13:47.120
  • in the stock market, a period of consolidation. It can't all be this. There's
  • 00:13:47.140 --> 00:13:51.210
  • rhythms. There's ups and downs. And we trust Him for the whole ride, just
  • 00:13:51.230 --> 00:13:54.270
  • knowing He's got it.He's got it. He is our provision. He is our life and the
  • 00:13:54.290 --> 00:13:59.050
  • length of our days.
  • 00:13:59.070 --> 00:14:00.270
  • I'm telling you, my God is able to make all grace abound toward you. He's
  • 00:14:00.290 --> 00:14:06.280
  • your provision.So don't let His be the last call you make when you need something.

  • 00:14:52.220 --> 00:14:57.220
  • Let it be the first. Look to Him for your daily bread. Look to Him for your
  • 00:14:57.240 --> 00:15:04.020
  • rest. Look to Him. Ask Him.
  • 00:15:04.040 --> 00:15:05.220
  • Let Him hear the quiet secrets of your heart. God, I dream of doing this
  • 00:15:05.240 --> 00:15:09.180
  • one day. God, I leave it with You. I'm just going to follow You. I'm going to
  • 00:15:09.200 --> 00:15:12.200
  • seek first the Kingdom of God. I'm going to seek you more than the
  • 00:15:12.220 --> 00:15:15.090
  • dreams in my heart. Because I've seen it happen so many times, where
  • 00:15:15.110 --> 00:15:20.140
  • we follow God instead of chasing our dreams directly. And as we follow
  • 00:15:20.160 --> 00:15:24.140
  • Him, we have a better version of ourselves to inherit the dreams that He
  • 00:15:24.160 --> 00:15:28.140
  • actually wanted us to have all along. So there's a provision in Jesus.
  • 00:15:28.160 --> 00:15:33.290
  • There's a third thing-- a part of this treasure of entering Christ. And it's
  • 00:15:34.010 --> 00:15:37.010
  • the privilege-- the privilege of entering through the door. What is the
  • 00:15:37.030 --> 00:15:41.170
  • privilege? Well, look at it in the text with me. He says, those who enter
  • 00:15:41.190 --> 00:15:46.120
  • through Him will be saved and get pasture.
  • 00:15:46.140 --> 00:15:48.250
  • But notice what He says. They will go-- say it out loud. In and out-- it's
  • 00:15:48.270 --> 00:15:54.140
  • better than Shake Shack. In and out-- take that east coast. In and out--
  • 00:15:54.160 --> 00:16:00.140
  • so much better than Five Guys. In and out-- the valet slip at the hotel will
  • 00:16:00.160 --> 00:16:11.040
  • describe your ability to go in and out as a privilege. You have in and out
  • 00:16:11.060 --> 00:16:18.040
  • privileges, meaning you can get your car out of the valet as many times as you need to.
  • 00:16:18.060 --> 00:16:22.060
  • And Jesus is saying coming to Him-- and specifically, in this instance,
  • 00:16:22.080 --> 00:16:28.230
  • being a part of the church-- is something that we get to go in and out of.
  • 00:16:28.250 --> 00:16:33.060
  • We're not coming in and out of salvation, obviously. But there's an
  • 00:16:33.080 --> 00:16:37.290
  • aspect to being a part of the group of people following Jesus that is
  • 00:16:38.010 --> 00:16:42.180
  • meant to be in and out. What do you mean?
  • 00:16:42.200 --> 00:16:45.010
  • A while back, I took my family to Disneyland. And when we were leaving
  • 00:16:45.030 --> 00:16:49.180
  • the park, they had us exit under a sign that said, exit hand stamp. And
  • 00:16:49.200 --> 00:16:54.230
  • there was one small exit that just said, exit. But the rest of them said exit hand stamp.
  • 00:16:54.250 --> 00:16:58.010
  • And the people will explain to you that if you intend to return to the park--
  • 00:16:58.030 --> 00:17:02.120
  • meaning you give the kids a nap or you go get some reasonably priced
  • 00:17:02.140 --> 00:17:05.030
  • food outside of the park, and return-- you're going to need, not only your
  • 00:17:05.050 --> 00:17:10.080
  • ticket, that's not enough. You're also going to need some evidence that
  • 00:17:10.100 --> 00:17:13.030
  • you had been there. We need to write our name. We need to write this
  • 00:17:13.050 --> 00:17:17.020
  • phrase. When you write some version of open sesame on your hand.
  • 00:17:17.040 --> 00:17:20.180
  • And they stamp you and you don't see anything. And you're like, what in
  • 00:17:20.200 --> 00:17:23.080
  • the world is happening? And that's because they stamped you with
  • 00:17:23.100 --> 00:17:25.290
  • something fluorescent that will need something UV-- something
  • 00:17:26.010 --> 00:17:29.060
  • invisible-- like a UV light going in to cause the fluorescent to become
  • 00:17:29.080 --> 00:17:34.030
  • visible and shine out.
  • 00:17:34.050 --> 00:17:35.260
  • And so, well, I haven't been to Disneyland today so you're not going to
  • 00:17:35.280 --> 00:17:38.010
  • see anything on the hand. But here's the crazy thing. Later on, when you
  • 00:17:38.030 --> 00:17:42.030
  • give them the ticket when you're trying to come back in, you can't go
  • 00:17:42.050 --> 00:17:43.150
  • through the gate until they shine on your hand.
  • 00:17:43.170 --> 00:17:46.150
  • Now, it makes me remember what Jesus said to the church at
  • 00:17:46.170 --> 00:17:49.210
  • Philadelphia about Him writing His name on them. It makes me think
  • 00:17:49.230 --> 00:17:53.010
  • about how we're meant to come into the church. We're meant to be here
  • 00:17:53.030 --> 00:17:55.230
  • on the weekend. We're meant to come in and go, yeah, the bread is so
  • 00:17:55.250 --> 00:17:57.250
  • good, and the light is so good, and the door is so awesome, and yay!
  • 00:17:57.270 --> 00:18:00.120
  • Yay, for what I learned from God. And yay, that new song, "King of
  • 00:18:00.140 --> 00:18:03.220
  • Glory." Oh, I love how that felt.
  • 00:18:03.240 --> 00:18:05.080
  • But we're never meant to stay here. Why? Because there's a whole
  • 00:18:05.100 --> 00:18:07.280
  • world out there that needs to know him. We don't have to worry about
  • 00:18:08.000 --> 00:18:11.040
  • getting back in. Because when we come back in, He's going to shine His
  • 00:18:11.060 --> 00:18:14.250
  • light. And magnificent seven-- His name, I am-- is written on our hand.
  • 00:18:14.270 --> 00:18:20.000
  • We're going to be able to come back in. Don't you worry about it. You're
  • 00:18:20.020 --> 00:18:22.130
  • welcome back here next weekend.
  • 00:18:22.150 --> 00:18:24.010
  • But don't you dare stay here all week, because there's people in your
  • 00:18:24.030 --> 00:18:26.230
  • city. There's people in your family. There's people in your neighborhood.
  • 00:18:26.250 --> 00:18:30.220
  • There's people at your job. There's people who need Jesus. We can't
  • 00:18:30.240 --> 00:18:35.040
  • stay here where the eating's good.
  • 00:18:35.060 --> 00:18:37.160
  • We've got to come and glow, so we can go. We've got to come and
  • 00:18:37.180 --> 00:18:41.150
  • gather, so we can scatter. We had better be around some people. We
  • 00:18:41.170 --> 00:18:45.210
  • had better be talking to some people. We had better be bringing some
  • 00:18:45.230 --> 00:18:48.140
  • people. The church, at its best, remembers it's not all about us.
  • 00:18:48.160 --> 00:18:52.180
  • I went to a game at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. And I had two
  • 00:18:52.200 --> 00:18:59.260
  • tickets, one for me and one for a friend. I got there early so I went in. I
  • 00:18:59.280 --> 00:19:02.140
  • didn't want to miss the flames shooting out of the basketball hoops.
  • 00:19:02.160 --> 00:19:04.130
  • Because this is America and that's how we do.
  • 00:19:04.150 --> 00:19:06.070
  • And so I'm in there I'm watching the game and he texts me, I'm here. And
  • 00:19:06.090 --> 00:19:09.230
  • I go to leave to get him but I, thank God, at the last second noticed a sign
  • 00:19:09.250 --> 00:19:12.270
  • that said, no in and out privileges.
  • 00:19:12.290 --> 00:19:15.000
  • So now I'm stuck because I've got his ticket. But I can't get out there to
  • 00:19:15.020 --> 00:19:19.010
  • give it to him. Well I can. But then only he'll get to go back in and I won't.
  • 00:19:19.030 --> 00:19:22.260
  • So I had to be creative and text him and say, I'll meet you at the side of
  • 00:19:22.280 --> 00:19:26.130
  • the metal detectors. And sort of like tell the lady, don't worry. And hand
  • 00:19:26.150 --> 00:19:30.010
  • him the thing on the sly. Listen, a lack of in and out privileges made it
  • 00:19:30.030 --> 00:19:33.210
  • hard to get my ticket to my friend who needed to be in here.
  • 00:19:33.230 --> 00:19:36.110
  • And that's why your good Savior, Jesus, made it clear. You've got in and
  • 00:19:36.130 --> 00:19:40.100
  • out privileges. So you better be out there. Don't be acting like the whole
  • 00:19:40.120 --> 00:19:43.160
  • world is already saved. Don't be acting like everybody in your life already
  • 00:19:43.180 --> 00:19:46.250
  • knows about Jesus. Don't be acting like everybody who follows you on
  • 00:19:46.270 --> 00:19:50.000
  • Instagram already knows that you follow Christ. You'd best be out there,
  • 00:19:50.020 --> 00:19:53.290
  • being salt and being light because we're meant to reach this lost world.
  • 00:19:54.010 --> 00:19:58.060
  • We've got in and out privileges.
  • 00:19:58.080 --> 00:20:01.220
  • And it's a privilege to know about heaven. It's a privilege to know that we
  • 00:20:01.240 --> 00:20:06.160
  • have hope for our souls like an anchor. So don't be selfish with the light.
  • 00:20:06.180 --> 00:20:11.000
  • Don't be selfish with the bread. We have just fought for this as a church.
  • 00:20:11.020 --> 00:20:16.100
  • We just decided we're not going to be a church that just comes in for a
  • 00:20:16.120 --> 00:20:19.090
  • potluck and let's it just be for us.
  • 00:20:19.110 --> 00:20:22.040
  • We're going to be a church that's going to fight to take the gospel to new
  • 00:20:22.060 --> 00:20:25.020
  • cities, and new places, and new mediums, and new avenues. And when
  • 00:20:25.040 --> 00:20:29.220
  • we've explored those, we're going to find some more. And it's going to be
  • 00:20:29.240 --> 00:20:32.140
  • expensive. And it's going to be difficult. And we know not everybody is
  • 00:20:32.160 --> 00:20:35.090
  • going to like it. And not everyone's going to be cool with it for the journey.
  • 00:20:35.110 --> 00:20:38.040
  • And we're all right with that. Because if a Christian leaves our church
  • 00:20:38.060 --> 00:20:40.290
  • because they don't like our bent on lost people, we'll see them in heaven.
  • 00:20:41.010 --> 00:20:46.020
  • I don't have the need for every Christian to like me. I'm more interested in
  • 00:20:46.040 --> 00:20:50.150
  • what lost people are doing. And that's who I have my mind on as I lead
  • 00:20:50.170 --> 00:20:54.070
  • this church. As my wife and I lead this church, that's our mentality. The
  • 00:20:54.090 --> 00:20:57.160
  • person who hates Jesus, doesn't know Jesus, is far from God-- that's what
  • 00:20:57.180 --> 00:21:01.030
  • we're thinking about.
  • 00:21:01.050 --> 00:21:02.220
  • That's how Jesus was. You know Jesus, right? Luke 19-- why did He
  • 00:21:02.240 --> 00:21:08.070
  • come? Look at it-- to seek and to save the lost. Dr. Billy Graham used to
  • 00:21:08.090 --> 00:21:15.010
  • say, He didn't come for the chosen few. He came for the rejected many. He
  • 00:21:15.030 --> 00:21:19.200
  • came for those who wouldn't feel comfortable in church service. He came
  • 00:21:19.220 --> 00:21:22.070
  • for those who would say, the building would fall down on me.
  • 00:21:22.090 --> 00:21:24.150
  • And that's why we don't meet in cathedrals. Because no one's going to say
  • 00:21:24.170 --> 00:21:27.010
  • a movie theater will fall down on me, a nightclub would fall down on me.
  • 00:21:27.030 --> 00:21:30.000
  • We started this church in a bar. No one was worried about the bar falling
  • 00:21:30.020 --> 00:21:32.230
  • down on them. You see what I'm saying? And that's why we're trying to get
  • 00:21:32.250 --> 00:21:36.010
  • the gospel to people. Because that's how Jesus rolled.
  • 00:21:36.030 --> 00:21:38.220
  • All right there's a fourth. And we're going to wrap it up here. There's a
  • 00:21:38.240 --> 00:21:42.070
  • fourth reason why it's so amazing to enter through the door. And it's this.
  • 00:21:42.090 --> 00:21:45.110
  • We find pleasures ever more. Well that's tasty. It rhymed. Pleasures ever
  • 00:21:45.130 --> 00:21:50.180
  • more on the other side of the door. What do I mean? I mean it's awesome
  • 00:21:50.200 --> 00:21:54.030
  • to know Jesus during life. It is. And I hope you understand it's not just
  • 00:21:54.050 --> 00:21:58.050
  • about after dying. There's so much for this life.
  • 00:21:58.070 --> 00:22:01.070
  • In fact, there's true life, the only kind of real life according to Jesus. If you
  • 00:22:01.090 --> 00:22:06.070
  • look at it again, He said the thief only comes to-- look at this. Look how
  • 00:22:06.090 --> 00:22:08.250
  • jacked up the thief is. To steal from you and then kill you. And he's not
  • 00:22:08.270 --> 00:22:12.250
  • even done with you when you're dead. He's going to try and destroy you.
  • 00:22:12.270 --> 00:22:15.080
  • That's when the real fun begins. It's like, what is this guy's problem? Yeah, he's not your friend.
  • 00:22:15.100 --> 00:22:19.130
  • But Jesus said, I have come that they may have life. Pause there. The
  • 00:22:19.150 --> 00:22:26.160
  • Greek word is zoey not bios. Bios is biological life.
  • 00:22:26.180 --> 00:22:30.050
  • Bios is your physical body. That's important. Your physical body is
  • 00:22:30.070 --> 00:22:33.190
  • important. But biological life isn't the only kind of life because you can
  • 00:22:33.210 --> 00:22:37.230
  • have money but not peace. You can have a bed but not rest. You can have
  • 00:22:37.250 --> 00:22:43.150
  • health but not wellness. I've come that you may have the Greek word zoey.
  • 00:22:43.170 --> 00:22:49.180
  • It's everlasting life. It's an invisible kind of life. It's an unstoppable kind of
  • 00:22:49.200 --> 00:22:54.110
  • life. It's a life that can't be quantified. It's a life that can't just be calculated
  • 00:22:54.130 --> 00:22:58.100
  • in dollars and cents and followers on Twitter. It's bigger than that kind of
  • 00:22:58.120 --> 00:23:02.270
  • life. I've come that you may have real life.
  • 00:23:02.290 --> 00:23:06.010
  • But that's not even all. And that you would have it more abundantly. That's
  • 00:23:06.030 --> 00:23:12.220
  • awesome-- life, and then more abundant life. Life and then turbocharged
  • 00:23:12.240 --> 00:23:18.210
  • life. Life and then Red Bull infused life. The best kind of life there is to
  • 00:23:18.230 --> 00:23:23.070
  • have-- zoey life. But then life overflowing, life
  • 00:23:23.090 --> 00:23:26.050
  • abundantly. Someone said, you could actually translate when He says life
  • 00:23:26.070 --> 00:23:29.180
  • and life to the full-- one translation says-- as this way. Life and life super
  • 00:23:29.200 --> 00:23:33.290
  • abundantly. Life is just brimming over.
  • 00:23:34.010 --> 00:23:36.250
  • Because that's just how Jesus is. He won't just give you peace. He'll give
  • 00:23:36.270 --> 00:23:40.110
  • you peace that surpasses understanding. He won't just give you joy. He
  • 00:23:40.130 --> 00:23:44.110
  • gives joy unspeakable and full of glory. He doesn't just forgive your sins.
  • 00:23:44.130 --> 00:23:50.060
  • He abundantly pardons. And He won't just pour out a little bit of His grace
  • 00:23:50.080 --> 00:23:55.140
  • on your life. He wants your cup to run over. And He isn't just able to bless
  • 00:23:55.160 --> 00:24:01.200
  • you as you step through new doors.
  • 00:24:01.220 --> 00:24:03.130
  • Our God-- look at this. He is able and wants to do anything you know-- far
  • 00:24:03.150 --> 00:24:07.190
  • more than you could ever imagine, or guess, or request in your wildest
  • 00:24:07.210 --> 00:24:11.020
  • dreams. He does it, not by pushing us around, but by working within us.
  • 00:24:11.040 --> 00:24:15.050
  • His spirit deeply and gently within us. And that's all in this life.
  • 00:24:15.070 --> 00:24:20.070
  • But what about when we do come to die? What about when our last breath
  • 00:24:20.090 --> 00:24:24.230
  • takes place on this earth? Well that, too, for those of us who have come to
  • 00:24:24.250 --> 00:24:29.110
  • Jesus, involves a door.
  • 00:24:29.130 --> 00:24:31.040
  • John wrote the Book of Revelation. And in it God gave him just a moment
  • 00:24:31.060 --> 00:24:35.080
  • to look at heaven. Look how he described heaven. Heaven is on the other
  • 00:24:35.100 --> 00:24:40.270
  • side of an open door. I love it-- that it's not a closed door. It's an open door.
  • 00:24:40.290 --> 00:24:47.210
  • There's an open door policy in Heaven. Open door policy-- but we think
  • 00:24:47.230 --> 00:24:54.110
  • about that wrong because we think open door is going to look like this.
  • 00:24:54.130 --> 00:24:56.290
  • Because we are used to doors opening for us by themselves, right? Nod
  • 00:24:57.010 --> 00:25:07.190
  • up and down if you understand, yes-- side to side if it's, no.
  • 00:25:07.210 --> 00:25:10.060
  • We're the only people in human history who have been so entitled that we
  • 00:25:10.080 --> 00:25:14.290
  • just walked up to a door and it just opens for us. And we act like
  • 00:25:15.010 --> 00:25:19.010
  • something's gone wrong with the world when it malfunctions. Oh, fine.
  • 00:25:19.030 --> 00:25:23.090
  • We're so lazy-- did you ever notice the attitude you get when an escalator
  • 00:25:23.110 --> 00:25:28.090
  • is not working? You're like, fine I'll use the stairs.This is so stupid. Isn't
  • 00:25:28.110 --> 00:25:31.160
  • there an elevator? What is this? What am I, a savage? What?
  • 00:25:31.180 --> 00:25:34.250
  • I was walking on a moving sidewalk the other day. And there was three of
  • 00:25:34.270 --> 00:25:39.040
  • them. And the fourth one was out. And I was like, OK fine, just this once.
  • 00:25:39.060 --> 00:25:42.060
  • But next time I come back, you'd better be going.
  • 00:25:42.080 --> 00:25:44.060
  • So we think open door-- well, it's going to be open. Well heaven's got an
  • 00:25:44.080 --> 00:25:48.060
  • open door policy. But it's not going to open itself. That's our job, church.
  • 00:25:48.080 --> 00:25:53.270
  • That's our job to keep heaven's door open. That's why David, who was so
  • 00:25:53.290 --> 00:25:58.070
  • smart and such a humble servant of God, said it this way. Look at it. Psalm
  • 00:25:58.090 --> 00:26:01.220
  • 84-- he said, "I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than
  • 00:26:01.240 --> 00:26:06.200
  • dwell in the tents of wickedness."
  • 00:26:06.220 --> 00:26:09.120
  • Heaven's got an open door policy but it's not going to open itself. It's our
  • 00:26:09.140 --> 00:26:14.100
  • job to open the door for the people in our lives. It's our job to usher them
  • 00:26:14.120 --> 00:26:18.270
  • through. I hope you understand what an honor and a privilege it is to open
  • 00:26:18.290 --> 00:26:22.290
  • the door for people, to escort them to the door.
  • 00:26:23.010 --> 00:26:25.190
  • We've got to be ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen. We
  • 00:26:25.210 --> 00:26:29.030
  • can't let Ritz Carlton have all the fun. We can't let Chick- fil-a have all the
  • 00:26:29.050 --> 00:26:32.030
  • fun. We've got to escort people to the door. We've got to hold open the
  • 00:26:32.050 --> 00:26:35.210
  • door. We've got to let them in the door. It's got an open door to everybody
  • 00:26:35.230 --> 00:26:40.050
  • in the world. But God loves the world so much that He sent you and me
  • 00:26:40.070 --> 00:26:43.150
  • into the world to do what Jesus did-- to point the way to the door, to point
  • 00:26:43.170 --> 00:26:48.210
  • the way to the light.
  • 00:26:48.230 --> 00:26:50.180
  • And when our last breath takes place here, the angels will bring us through
  • 00:26:50.200 --> 00:26:57.160
  • that open door and we'll take our first breaths there. And what will we
  • 00:26:57.180 --> 00:27:02.170
  • experience one minute after we die? David again tells us. In God's
  • 00:27:02.190 --> 00:27:08.020
  • presence, on the other side of that open door, look at it-- fullness of joy and
  • 00:27:08.040 --> 00:27:15.270
  • pleasures evermore is waiting for you on the other side of heaven's door.
  • 00:27:15.290 --> 00:27:22.240
  • MUSIC
  • 00:27:22.260 --> 00:27:39.290
