Help us to Have the Strength to Accept What Your Perfect Will is for Our Lives.
This is one of the most difficult prayers that a person can ask of God. As Christians, our lives are filled with immense joy of being in relationship with our Savior. We’re bonded to Heaven, our eternal destination. And we know for a fact that the worst that can happen in this life doesn’t hold a candle to the magnificent future that’s in store for us in God’s kingdom.
But that doesn’t mean we’re immune to pain in this lifetime. Realistically, we’re probably not going to overcome every difficulty that comes our way. We may see loved ones pass away, marriages crumble, people fall ill, and other trials of life that cause us to grieve and hurt. We may pray without ceasing that these difficulties “go away.” But what if they don’t? What if an illness was meant to cause us to meet someone (a doctor, a nurse, a fellow patient) whom God has created an opportunity for us to share His love with?
What if through our difficulties people see our faith magnified and they become encouraged or saved through the mighty power of Christ?
In this clip, Grammy Award-winner Mandisa talks about the prayers that don’t get answered in the way we hoped they would. Earlier, she refers to Joey Feek who was promoted to Heaven after a valiant fight against cancer.
Mandisa shares that as she reads her Bible, she’s realizing that even though God cares about our trials, He also cares about our hearts as we face trials.
To be an overcomer then partly also means overcoming ourselves--our will, our wants for our lives, and to accept God’s perfect will for our lives.
You're an overcomer
Stay in the fight 'til the final round
You're not going under
'Cause God is holding you right now
You might be down for a moment
Feeling like it's hopeless
That's when He reminds you
That you're an overcomer
