Francis Chan asks one, simple question:
If you took your life jacket off, would you sink or swim?
If you believed in the power of Christ within you, your life would radically change. Instead, Chan warns, Christians can be too reliant on a “life jacket”—that is the spiritual lives of other Believers—to keep their own faith afloat.
We sometimes say, “give me the ‘John Piper’ life jacket,” or “give me the ‘Ravi Zacharias’ life jacket,” etc. However, we need to be saying, “God give me the wisdom and strength to be your witness and spread your gospel.” Your faith grows stronger when you take the life jacket off and swim the course.
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)
Stop relying on your Christian university, Christian family, or Christian speakers to keep you afloat. Rely on the mighty hand of God who will use you because we are victorious through Him. This power comes from God, our Lord and Savior, He is the One who has all power and authority.
“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.” 1 Corinthians 4:20 (NIV)
When you magnify God, you partner with what He is doing in your life. Through the Holy Spirit, God will lead and guide you to influence your home, city, and nation!
