If You Never Have a Test, You Can't Have a Testimony.
When you think of the word, "overcomer" which person from the Bible comes to mind? Is it Jesus who overcame sin and death so that we can have everlasting life with Him? Or is it Daniel who overcame the jaws of the lion’s den through faith? What about Ruth who overcame cultural barriers to become one of the founding mothers of our faith? Or maybe it’s Job, who overcame trial after trial and had his life restored?
Dr. Jeremiah’s favorite “overcomer” in the Old Testament is King David. He thinks that David is the best Old Testament “overcomer” of all time and it’s easy to see why!
There are many lessons that we can learn from King David’s life. In this clip, Dr. Jeremiah illustrates four of them:
- Refuse to be discouraged by your friends
- Reinforce your focus on God. It’s OK to talk to God about your problems but sometimes you need to talk to your problems about God … put your problems in perspective!
- Reflect on your previous victories
- Run toward your problems, not away from them
As that saying goes, if you never have a test, you can’t have a testimony. Let Jesus be the reason for your testimony. Let Him be the reason you’re an overcomer!
